I bought this a while ago but waited to see how it does before reviewing. It has worked out perfectly. For the price you are not going to do any better. The company is American and has excellent support who actually pick up the phone and help you. I believe parts are manufactured in different parts of the world.

Please remember this is not a toy even though it is reasonably priced. You need to treat it properly. You need to understand how it works. If you don't then take the time to learn. It is necessary before you get full benefits of it.

Think of a HAM radio operator and how much they need know. This is similar except you don't need a license to operate it. Now I will write the pluses and minuses of this particular microscope:

Pluses

*) Works with or without a computer at the same time.

*) Normal view is binocular meaning you get to use both your eyes.

*) LED light means less heat and longer bulb life.

*) Very good construction.

*) Metal body makes it heavy and less subject to vibrations.

*) A reasonable quality and resolution camera.

*) Fine control of slices makes moving the sample slides very easy.

*) Price is unbeatable.

*) Wonderful achromatic optics which are great at the price.

*) Very good customer service where knowledgeable technical people pick talk to you.

Minuses:

*) Hard to focus at the highest magnification. This is the only real issue but I have seen it with all the microscopes I tried and I have tried many :)

*) It requires a person comfortable with technical items to use. All the other problems are all simple matters if you are technically inclined.

*) Dust will damage it but then dust damages all microscopes. Use the cover whenever not using it.

*) The control for color filter is a bit hard to find.

*) Replacing the LED light requires soldering. Not a big deal for me but may be a problem for non technical people.

*) I need to disconnect the USB camera before booting my Win-XP. No big deal.
