I bought this unit after someone tried to break in to our house in the middle of the day. (My wife was home and scared him off.)

I wanted a network video recorder because I would be able to monitor the cameras from a computer/iphone while away from home. Overall I like what I bought, but it was a tad challenging getting the ports forwarded which is something you have to do in order for remote monitoring to work. The instructions were good and I had to be very meticulous in following them. Even after I thought I had followed them exactly, I realized I missed a step. The app for my ipod-touch works fine and I can log in to the NVR from my Mac but the application is a "lite" version (due to me having the latest OS) and I can't do all the functions that I can at the NVR itself like changing the motion detect.

The product comes with two 100' ethernet cables which was plenty for where I put the cameras. However, be very careful when fishing and running the cables. I brought the cables into my attic and then down the interior wall next to where the NVR is located. In doing so, I must have broken or damaged the wire(s) inside because one of the cameras was not showing up on the monitor. I bought another cable and had to go through the hassle of rerunning it. Once connected all was good with that camera. I was adjusting the cable for the other camera so it would be secure to the facia board and somehow I damaged that cable. Instead of buying another 100' and rerunning, I bought a crimper, some CAT 5 connectors, cut off about 6' of existing cable and fixed it myself.

I found the customer support to be pretty good. One Sunday, I was able to talk to a support person who actually contacted me to arrange the call on a day they don't make calls.

All in all i like the unit but I would like a more robust software version for my Macbook. Oh, and I should mention that the NVR fan is a tad loud

To date, the Sandisk 32GB ULTRA SDHC SD Card is the largest SD Card available for space-conscious users. This card will work well for simple powershot cameras, recorders, mp3 players, and much more. In fact, we use this card specifically with a Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens.

Unfortunately, this model is 15MB/s, which is rather slow for higher-capacity devices, like the Edirol R-09HR High-Resolution WAVE/MP3 Recorder. When using this device, we used to get the message, "Memory Card Slow." However, after switching to a faster card, such as the 30MB/s, which is offered at 16GB: SanDisk 16gb Extreme® III 30MB/s Edition SDHC High Performance Card, our recorder worked perfectly. Note that most electronic devices will not encounter slow-errors, but the possibility was worth mentioning.

I've had the Asus Slate for about a week now, and I've put it through its paces. Overall, I'm really impressed.

Summary:

Pros

+ It's like it was was made for OneNote stylus input and handwriting recognition are incredible

+ Screen is very bright and crisp, great viewing angles

+ Touch input experience is good as well, supports pinch zoom, etc

+ Fast, responsive, boots quick, runs Win7 apps well, good experience with office suite

+ Email and Web browsing is surprisingly easy with either touch or stylus input

+ Can handle some higher end games, though not a gaming machine

Neutral

= Was expecting it to be too heavy but was pleasantly surprised that is was not

= Was expecting the Win7 touch experience to be terrible, but it wasn't bad

= Is expensive but not bad if you compare it to a laptop with a core i5 and active digitizer

Cons

Battery life is dismal

Password entry is not fun, wish it had a fingerprint reader

Important tip make sure to install the optional firmware update to the digitizer from Windows Update.

Details:

I've been keeping an eye out for a machine like this for years to use at work. I don't like using laptops to take notes. The flipped up screen and noise of typing is distracting to a conversation. This machine offers an experience like using pen and paper with all the advantages of electronic notes.

The combination of a good digitizer, the great handwriting recognition and palm reject of OneNote, and the general design of the tablet itself help make it the best machine I've seen for taking notes. The tablet is relatively heavy but still quite comfortable to hold in the palm of my hand or crook of my arm. It also rests well on a table. The stylus pops out of the tablet itself so you aren't forced to use a case (I don't). The tablet is quite thin and there is a solid border for gripping that keeps you from inadvertently touching the screen.

The screen itself looks really good very bright and crisp. It will likely be the first thing you notice when you pick it up. Touch interface is also snappier than I expected, though the pinch zoom is not quite as smooth as the iPhone/iPad.

I was surprised with the email and browsing experience (use Outlook, Gmail, and Firefox). Clicking on links and small icons really isn't as hard as I was expecting, the touch keyboard works ok, and windows picks up handwriting pretty well. You aren't going to write a page long email easily, but there is always the ability to use a bluetooth or usb keyboard and mouse if needed.

Windows apps work fine, similar experience to a core i5 laptop. Gaming isn't too bad. Civ5 works well enough, and I would expect most puzzle and strategy games to work. Will not do as well on games where you worry about fps. Videos look great, again much like a core i5 laptop.

Wish the battery life were better. On the highest brightness setting, I get about 3hrs. I can squeeze 4-5hrs if I lower it a bit. This means I have to charge it half way through the day, which is a pain.

Password entry is also not great. You have to use the touch keyboard, and for security reasons it doesn't light up the keys. Makes it easy to screw up. Wish the tablet had a fingerprint reader or some other support for easier password entry.

Overall, I am very happy with this tablet. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a machine to use at work or school (or at home if you use windows apps or the office suite a lot).

Observation:

I've been following the marketing from ASUS for this tablet, and I think they have it wrong. They've been comparing it to an iPad. That'd be like Toyota comparing the Prius to a sports car. It doesn't make sense. Both the Asus Slate and iPad are fun in their own way, but serve very different purposes. Use the right tool for the task.

Superb state of the art camera which is value priced in today's market. I had been waiting for digital camera resolution to reach the equivalent of 35 MM photography -it has finally occurred with the advent of 3+ mega pixels. This camera has 3 advanced pixel shifting modes which generate results equivalent to 6 MEGA PIXELs. When the pictures are printed as 8" X 10" blowups on my 2400 X 1200 DPI Lexmark ($175) inkjet, they are equal to my 35MM 8" X 10"s (magnificent). Extremely easy to use, with many features such as: Collage (taking 1 photo and superimposing a 2nd photo upon it so that it appears as if the subject from pic 1 was in the location of pic 2 -a different background), video streaming where a succession of 20 seconds of stills run together as a clip which can be emailed as motion video, red eye reduction built into the flash, USB port for direct input to a computer or printer, Video port for input to a TV, Calendar to time /date stamp if desired, Macro capability which I recently used to take pictures of pictures, etc. And the price at our local electronics store was $699!!

I am surprised at the negative reviews of this little lap top. It is attractive and more importantly worked out of the box. After booting, I went immediately to Windows update and downloaded 61 updates and all loaded successfully. This little beast

then recognized my other system computers and downloaded music and software for various printers. I have been able to load and run older versions of Microsoft Office, Dragon Naturally Speaking, download video and music from the Teaching Company and and Amazon as well as update Skype..... The keyboard is perfect for my rather

weak touch, but not overly sensitive. Multiple open programs work quickly. I was expecting that an i3 would be slower and have hesitancy with all that I threw at it

but it just churned on. I have not tested the HDMI port yet but will update the review later.

One reviewer mentioned that the Windows 8 update would be problematic, but I don't think so. I see also that the links for the 15 dollar rebate AND the Windows 8 upgrade for 14.99 have been restored and I was able to register this computer at Dell Advantage.. no problem.

The service tag is present both on the box AND below the battery. A manual of the computer's specs can be easily downloaded at DELL.

I really do see more rapid data transfer with the USB 3 ports. There are four USB ports not three and the aforementioned HDMI.

This is my sixth or seventh Dell computer in the last several years. While they all have some battle-scars (mostly due to my travel and bad habits) and a few naggling problems; they all can still function. This computer is the least priced with the most power and ease. The sound is a bit weak and tinny but is easily remedied with a stereo connection.

Thus, I would rate this computer an outstanding value, working well out of the box

and exceeding expectations. I am uncertain if the Windows 8 upgrade will be a benefit or an aggravation as this computer segued into our home network Windows 7 premium with ease and perhaps unnecessary updates are just that!

I sympathize with those that received a problematic or DOA computer. Last year the same happened to me with another internet vendor (Tiger.....)and it really has taken a lot of time and effort to deal with it.

My opinion would be to give this laptop a try: Amazon will always back up their warranty and it would not be difficult to ship a defective unit back.

Good Luck!

Update: I just tested the unit with respect to the HDMI port functionality. I went online and streamed a lecture I had downloaded from the Teaching Company. I then projected via the HDMI port of the 15 R 5110 to a Sony internet TV. The laptop performed extremely well in both connecting to the WIFI and streaming in real time and the HDMI port to the TV via a generic Amazon HDMI cable. There were no buffering issues, hesitations or drop outs and the quality of the picture was excellent. I had to fiddle with the Sony TV controls a bit to get the audio to come thru, but when it did it was excellent. The quality was equivalent to the AV output I get from my Blue ray disc player playing ordinary DVDs. No complaints. I hope this is helpful for all of those who have doubts about this little i3 laptop. I am not a gamer but laptop is a good companion and appears to be very reliable to specs. It does not run hot. I posted a review of the generic 15 R 5110 from May 2011 in the comment(3) section of this review. I hope this helps.

I love this camera and do recommend it. Pros: Takes amazing zoom photos, (that far away butterfly becomes a close up beauty!) The ability to start recording at the touch of a button (you had to turn a dial on my old camera which doesn't sound like a big deal but on this camera it's so much easier to catch the unexpected moments) Cons: the zoom makes this camera not compact enough to throw in your purse, it's awkward to carry around on the neck strap if you are leaning over to play or walk with a toddler because the camera is so heavy it swings around and bumps the toddler's head if you're not holding it with your other hand, the color pop feature, especially on the black and white photo setting is really cool so far the color options don't really match up to most of what I see in my every day life, I've only had luck with one of the yellow and one of the blue shades, the rechargeable battery pack doesn't indicate when the batteries are done charging. Overall a nice camera!

This is my first dslr. Chose the SONY because it has the image stabilizer in the body so lenses are usually cheaper than those for a nikon or cannon which have the stabilizer mounted in the lenses. I am extremely happy with the quality of the pictures this camera takes by far the clearest and most crisp pictures I have ever taken.

I have upgraded an older AVR 235 Harman Kardon receiver who gave-up on me after a long struggle with regular interruptions. Even after sending it for repairs during the warranty, it came back with the same issue. Anyway, I grew tired of smashing it :) so, in a way, I'm happy it permanently stopped working.

Now, I'm pleasantly surprised with the quality with this Yamaha receiver and with the technological advancements. Most probably HK made similar progress as well, but I was reluctant to buy another Harman Kardon after the problems I had with the previous one.

The big surprise came after setting up the system using the YPAO microphone. I couldn't understand why my very large front Infinity speakers were always set to small, while the smaller surround speakers were set to large.

Several attempts and a lot of attention paid to the sweep sounds generated during the test, made me realize that one of my front speakers had poor bass. After a careful analysis, I discovered that one of the metal blades connecting the bi-wiring connectors went missing! I understand now why I had hard time equalizing the response of the old receiver, despite using special tools for it! Thanks to this new simple but thorough set-up system, the quality of my sound is dramatically improved. I just ordered additional speaker cables to make full use of the nice bi-amp feature of the new Yamaha. This feature is almost hidden and I wonder why it is not advertised in the specs. 5.1 with bi-amp might be better than 7.1.

Another nice upgrade is the perfect sync between the TV and the receiver, they talk to each other well, being able to turn them both on-off from the TV remote, or make use of the HDMI bypass feature if only the receiver is switched off. Same thing goes when using the bluray player, all units are turned on when the BD button is pressed and all units are switched off when switching the TV off. The volume can be adjusted from all the remotes and it switches automatically from the receiver to the internal TV speakers when the receiver is off.

I also like the way the my old classic iPod interface works. The TV screen shows the song names, etc with album art while the info button on the remote allows the titles to be shown on the receiver's display. It is great to be able to have 80gigs of high quality music without switching CDs. I'm emphasizing this because there are only a few streaming devices out-there able to play lossless files (ie. my new Sony bluray streams only the lossy mp3s). Too bad the USB port is on the front panel, I would have preferred that white USB cable to be hidden

Speaking about high-quality lossless audio, another upgrade for me is the possibility to decode the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. I have a few BD concerts and this option brings them a second life.

I have also tested the up-scaling and the video component input forwarding to the HDMI output. It worked well. However, HDMI to HDMI is the ideal solution and I think I noticed a quality improvement when I connected the cable box with a second HDMI cable.

The "universal" remote control is decent, I mapped all my other remotes to it. While I can use it alone for the most frequent actions, I found myself missing some buttons from time to time (like the audio/subtitle buttons from the bluray and a few other navigation buttons from the Comcast remote).

Summarizing, the first contact is positive.

Update: On a few occasions, after switching to the iPod interface, I couldn't move beyond the "Loading" message. The solution was to unplug-plug the iPod (or even to reboot it). So I have to get up from my couch, from time to time, after all :)

I recieved this today and right off the bat I was impressed with the packaging. Very sleek and impressive. I suck at building things by following instructions but theirs were surprisingly like building a Lego set. Once put together and combined with the follow focus kit and whip that I got from the same company I must tell you, this thing is impressive. It is small, compact, fully adjustable, comfortable, it has enough weight to it, and it looks fantastic. This and the follow focus integrate perfectly with one another.

One issue though. I did not receive the Free Swiss Rods or the 7" Stainless Friction Arm. I went online and chatted with Amazon customer service who gave me the option to either exchange at their expense with expedited shipping fees waved or to give me a nice discount that amounted to $50 off. I took the second option and will buy the friction arms myself. Great experience with customer service.

Edit: 08/01/2013 I just bought a second one of these and it came with the articulating Stainless Friction Arm and the Swiss Rods. No problems whatsoever. I love these rigs. They look sharp, coordinate with all of the other black, chrome and red Kamerar gear very well, and most importantly -THEY FUNCTION AS YOU WOULD EXPECT A VERY EXPENSIVE RIG TO FUNCTION.

I've had this PC for a couple of week already. Reading the last two reviews I can add:

Good:

It's fast. Delivers several programa with no problem

It's very light & thin. Make sure you take a neoprene sleeve with it and you should have no problems

Battery lasts. I don't think it meets the 7 hours but could do 6 no problem.

Has a backlight keyboard which really comes in handy.

Bad:

Speakers: Definitely not great speakers (but still ok)

Gesture tracking: Being and iPod user I can tell you Windows 8 and/or Toshiba are stil far away from reaching genuine gesture interface. Try to zoom in or zoom out without going to the previus app...

Windows 8: I think this OS is in the middle land of a tablet and a PC. You'll definitely have the feeling this is a prototype...it's a weird interface.

But considering the price and other brands performances I could definitely rate this one as a 4 star, it's a good PC and I feel confortable with it.

After opening the package, I popped my DTI/4GB into a USB port and copied a number of relatively small files to it (310 files totalling 5.1 mb). It took a full 2 minutes (that's 44 kBps), which was slow enough to convince me I'd gotten a lemon (I copied the same files to my old Sandisk Cruzer 1 gb in 20 seconds). After a couple emails to tech support, Kingston advised me to return it for a new one.

The new one arrived quickly, but performed identically to the old one. For kicks, I installed Sandra 2008 and benchmarked the device's performance. I found that, for small files (512 B), the transfer rate was barely 1 kBps. I contacted Kingston support again, this time providing more details about my testing and the benchmark results I'd gotten out of Sandra. The tech confirmed that this is a low-end device, that the slowness I was experiencing was normal, and that I probably should have sprung for something in their DTS line (too rich for my blood).

Now the good news. If you don't tend to copy a lot of small files, you'll probably be perfectly happy with this device. Once the file size gets to about 256 kb, writes to this drive speed up nicely. Reads are always fast. And tech support was exemplary. My only other complaint would be that the cheap plastic case does not inspire confidence.

No matter how you look at it, however, this is not a 5-star item by any stretch of the imagination. Not even for the money.

I'll admit it, I've got a bit of a fetish for speakers. ESPECIALLY mobile speakers. I tend to get just about every noteworthy new set that comes along. So it's no surprise I immediately had to try BOTH of the big kids on the bluetooth block: the SoundLink from Bose and the Big Jambox from Jawbone. I had already been impressed with the sound and form factor of the Bose (which has been out a while now) My Big Jambox arrived last Wednesday and I could finally put them side by side for a "jam-off".

The answer: Both sound better and more powerful than you could believe from their relatively small size

Each has it's own strengths.

BIG JAMBOX edges out the Bose on the following points:

* Speakerphone. Perhaps the single biggest advantage of the Big Jambox is the excellent speakerphone they built in. It is true full duplex and a joy to talk on. I even tested it with FaceTime on iPad and iPhoneboth work great. (The Bose has no speakerphone, when a call comes in, it simply pauses your music.)

* Clearer mid and high tones

* The LiveAudio featurewhich I like but none of my friends do. This is a simulated 3D surround sound mode It can only be correctly enjoyed while listening in a small space directly in front of the speaker, so it is of limited use, but for certain pieces of music the effect is breathtaking and almost freaky when you close your eyes you could swear certain instruments are behind you.

* Easy firmware updates and custom settings just like the original Jambox

* Longer battery life.

* Trendy/cool looking

BOSE SOUNDLINK edges out the Big Jambox on the following :

* Notably deeper, richer, more mellow lows.

* Respectable/professional looking

* Did I mention the deeper, richer lows?

I tweaked the EQ on my iPhone for "Bass Boost" and it changed the sound of the Jambox to more closely resemble the Bose, so it is not that the Jambox cannot produce those tones, I think it is more of a matter of the designed profile of sound without adjustment. the Bose is skewed (perhaps even artificially) in favor of the lows. I would love to see Jambox come out with a tweak to the firmware to allow a skew to "warmer" tones as an option. They have lots of flexibility in areas like this, as shown with the LiveAudio feature.

I love both units. While I like the warmer default tones of the Bose, I can set the Jambox to sound similar with the EQ setting, and I gain longer battery life and a killer speakerphone from the Big Jambox, so the winner for me is the Big Jambox.

I have side by side pictures of my red Big Jambox next to the Bose I'll try to upload those shortly...

[update 1: the photos are now uploaded and showing]

[update 2: Before my Big Jambox arrived I had read a few reviews which said something about it being "too bad you need to carry the big charger block around" and that it would not charge from the micro-usb. This turns out to be incorrect. You CAN charge it from the micro-usb. Like the New iPads, it's battery capacity is HUGE and it takes a long time to get a charge from a small phone charger. I think it is a matter speed using my iPad3 USB charger it works fine nothing else to tote. PS: A week later and I still love this thing. ]

This is a fine piece of equipment. It is beautifully designed and hides well because of its shape and size. I have a Mac computer and tried several other dash cams only to find they are difficult, clumsy or inconvenient to use and view the video.

Not the Blackvue. It has Mac software/viewer but can be viewed on a Mac without their proprietary software. The camera is ready to use right out of the box, but can be "Set Up" to suit your needs with selectivity of fps, resolution, LED on/off, sound on/off, brightness, etc. I would put it right up there with Finevue my choice being the Blackvue because of its design/shape and ease of use. Oh and the best designed mounting bracket of any very easy to remove and replace camera unlike others.

Background:

While in grad school, I shot weddings as a second source of income, and by the time I was through I'd amassed quite a collection of Nikon gear. These days, I'm shooting far fewer weddings (none), but I am doing a fair amount of consulting work that requires high quality photographs, but also requires hauling photo equipment across the country. It took me exactly one trip to realize that toting my SLR gear through airports was not going to fly (literally). I tried various mirrorless systems (Sony, Nikon 1), but I was consistently disappointed by the quality of the images and specifically the quality of the lenses.

Within a period of a few months, Panasonic announced the 12-35 f2.8, the 35-100 f2.8, and Olympus announced the 60mm macro lens for the micro-4/3rds mount three lenses that would, in theory, cover 99% of my shooting needs. Combined with rave reviews received by the Olympus OM-D E-M5, I decided to bite the bullet and try the system out. No regrets.

The Lens:

If you own the Panasonic 12-35 f2.8, you'll feel right at home with this lens.

Build quality is perfectly acceptable, though the lens is markedly less dense than the 12-35. Only about 50 grams separate the two in weight. As a result, the 35-100 doesn't *feel* quite as solid, but the build quality is still a step up from, say, the Panasonic 45-175. It certainly doesn't feel "cheap", even if it doesn't feel like a tank and to be quite honest, when the main benefit of the micro-4/3rds system is size and weight, I'm not sure "tank" is what I really want. In terms of size, the 35-100 is almost exactly the same size as the 12-35 when fully extended in the 35mm position. The 35-100 does not extend telescopically, maintaining a constant size through the zoom range.

Image quality is very good, though not up to the standards of some of the newest 70-200 designs from Nikon and Canon. In general, it seems to be about on par with the previous generation of Canon/Nikon 70-200 2.8's in terms of sharpness and color saturation, which is certainly nothing to complain about. Indeed, if this lens had been released 2-3 years ago, reviews might have been amazed at how close the lens came to the (then) top of the line products from major manufacturers. It is, of course, worth noting that you don't get quite the image separation you would on the larger formats with this lens, due to the effective f-stop really being more like f5.6 on a full frame camera, in terms of depth of field. Nonetheless, the lens exhibits a fairly pleasing bokeh, and in some cases having a slightly wider depth of field when shooting at f2.8 can be rather useful (like, say taking pictures of children running around indoors, if you want to have their entire face sharp and in focus).

Focusing is sharp and fast, particularly in good light, though it does seem to be slightly slower than the 12-35. The image stabilization worked well for me down to about 1/6-1/8th of a second at 100mm, handheld (picture of text was sharp and readable), though your results may vary. I haven't experienced any significant issues with flare, though I also haven't had the lens in situations where I would really expect it yet.

If I had to nitpick, it would mostly center on two things:

First, from a usability perspective, the physical moving distance of the zoom ring is very short less than a quarter of the circumference of the lens. This is a small thing, really, but it feels a bit short, particularly compared to most other professional-level zooms.

My bigger complaint, though, would be the minimum focusing distance. Recent 70-200 f2.8 designs have tended to have longer minimum focusing distances than their older counterparts, which in general is a good trade-off for the increased sharpness you get across the zoom range. The Panasonic has a minimum focus distance that is about what you would expect from one of these newer lenses, rather than the older models. In general for portrait work, this shouldn't be a problem, but if you're taking pictures of babies or (small) pets, it might become an issue. It is worth noting that the minimum focus distance is not constant across the zoom range, and seems to be shortest at about 75mm. For most people, this won't be a major issue, but it is something to be aware of, particularly if you're planning on using this lens to take pictures of small things.

Conclusion:

All in all, I'm pleased with the lens. For my purposes, the bottom line is that I can carry a camera, two f2.8 zooms, and a macro lens with less weight and bulk than my single 70-200 f2.8 zoom. To me, that is the value of the system, and it is worth the price I paid.

In terms of objective quality, both with respect to build and image, this lens is not the equal of the newest designs from Canon and Nikon. Of course, it is also about $1000 less. At the same time, this lens *is* the best option in terms of image quality for a telephoto on the micro-4/3rds mount. It will produce sharp, high contrast images across the range, and do so in a compact and well built package.

In their review of the OM-D E-M5, dpreview.com made a statement similar to the following: "In the past, there was a significant gap between micro-4/3rds cameras and their APS-C counterparts. This camera closes that gap significantly, enough that for most purposes, it is not important. If you are *really* unwilling to sacrifice *any* image quality, then you'll need to spend significantly more and get a full-frame system. But for the difference in size and weight, most people would be served better with this."

I think in many ways, that statement applies to the Panasonic 35-100. In the past, there have not been any mirrorless lens options that came anywhere close to providing the quality and convenience of a high-end zoom lens. Solutions revolved around taking real APS-C or full-frame lenses and using adapters to mount them to mirrorless bodies, with the inevitable compromises resulting. The 35-100 is a lens that, for all practical purposes, eliminates the gap between the micro-4/3rds system and an APS-C system in terms of a high-speed telephoto zoom.

If you are absolutely unwilling to compromise on image quality, you'll need to step up to the newest, most expensive designs from Canon and Nikon, and carry around a significantly bulkier, heavier system. If, on the other hand, you are someone who wants to maintain very good quality, but size and weight are now more important to you than having the absolute best image you possibly can, this lens will not disappoint.

I bought the 8 camera system from USA Security listed here. I would have given five stars, but it's four for the product not the firm.

The company shipped out a package missing a power supply for the main DVR unit. However, when I wrote and called to complain, they immediately shipped out a replacement power supply without any trouble whatsoever. This firm seemed committed to resolving sales problems for its customers, and for that I'm grateful. I'd definitely buy from them again, and would recommend others purchase from the firm as well.

The device works as advertised. Images from the cameras are straight 480i, and what's recorded is really about 320i, but then again so what. I'm not making a movie, I'm recording video of the exterior of a property. I don't care about image quality, I care about having proof for insurance adjusters and law enforcement. I've installed about half the cameras and got the DVR working, so I can say for certain that it works as advertised.

However, and here's why the fifth star is missing, the DVR system is based on Linux. It's clearly imported hardware from China. Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn't include source code for the Linux portion of the product. Yet, that's a requirement of the GPL license agreement for Linux. Frankly, I doubt USA Security has any control over their Chinese manufacturers they're likely just buying in bulk and selling an imported product. But they should know that if they could get their customers source code, folks like me just might improve it. I'll need the root password too.

For the vast majority of potential buyers, this is not an issue. If you want a cheap 8 cam security system, this device will do the trick. But it sure would be nice if these manufacturers actually read and followed the license agreements of the Free Software they base their products upon. Following that license would actually benefit them and their customers as well.
