NOTES: I still Own this camera in Dec 2010. There are a lot of new cameras with exciting new features. But in my opion this is the LAST GREAT APS format still image DSLRs. And looking at Sony's unfornunate need to copy Nikon with things like cluttering the Shutter Button with a power switch on all new models the A700, A900 (which I have used) and A850 may be the last cameras that fit the hand and quick clean shooting experience. Since I wrote this review Sony did a major Firmware upgrade that improved image quality related to high ISO noise and allows users to show RAW with no noise reduction. On top of that Lightroom 3 fixes the problems Adobe had dealing with Sony RAW files. Both of these upgrades were for me were like getting a new camera. There are moments video would be nice, I would like the improvements in focusing Sony and others have created in the past 3 years. But I have to say.. there are cars with features and classic cars people love to drive.. The A700 is a camera that makes photography a joy and all the new features seem to only clutter that experience so someday I will add a new camera to my gear. I will never "upgrade the A700" I think it as a moment of magic for still photography before Video and more technology transformed the experience forever. There is a reason USED and NEW UNSOLD STOCK have held their price so well. If you own Sony / Minolta lenses this is a great camera to own even though it is one of the last cameras without Live View on LCD etc. If you want a photograpy tool that doesn't get in the way of your art with features.. think about this camera. It will be a classic.

Original Review Soon after Buying A700 in 2007 -----------------

For years I shot Canon SLRs and for a while I moved to Nikon and Canon smaller digicams. When I jumped back to the SLR format in digital I ended up with the Konica-Minolta 5D over the Canon and Nikon cameras in my budget because of great image quality and in camera stabilization which works very well.

I recently upgraded my KM 5D to an A700. WOW!! This is by far the easiest camera I have ever used. Head and shoulders above traditional menus and tiny LCD Icons. The rear LCD shows you all the important settings at one time in a large easy to read format, sometimes with colors to alert you to what might be an unusual setting.

When you need to change anything from Shutter Speed to White Balance you do it right on the settings screen either by pressing one of the several dedicate buttons or using the easy thumb joystick. For shooting I almost never have to go into a menu except to format the memory card.

Auto Focus and Shutter:

It is fast and quiet. The AF has been tested faster than the new Canon in most lighting situations, though lenses on both systems will affect speed.

Both Sony and Now Sigma are coming out with quite focusing lenses that have built in motors so, Sony users will have lots new lens choices.

KEY FEATURES I LIKE:

Stabilization:

The in body stabilization works well With my 18-250 I have pulled off some shots even at 1/10s while at 250mm That is over 5 stops of stabilization, Sony only claims 3.5 stops. This stabilization works on all Sony And Minolta format auto-focus lenses. Some systems like Canon do not offer stabilized lenses in key formats like primes(non zooms) that are used for close-up macro shots or portrait work. It also adds cost and weight to each lens, with this system if you can find a bargain on a lower cost lens or a used lens it is still stabalized.

Example: Minolta made a 70-210 f4 lens often called a "beercan" that is legend in sharpness and image quality. It is often seen used here and on auction sites for $125-$175. It like all Sony compatible lenses becomes stabilized and would be like getting a $600 plus lens for $150.

ISO:

The Sony A700 offers ISO 100-3200 and up to 6400 as "extended ISO" but all ISO ranges are available at all times, no menu settings will enable or disable them like on the Canon 40D. It offers the ISO in 1/3 stop increments, but using the the front control wheel lets you jump a full stop at a time.

Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO):

Sony has several levels of DRO that do what used to take shooting in RAW format and working in tools like Photoshop. It automatically recovers overly bright areas and areas hidden in the shadows so your pictures look more like what your eye can see. Unlike some other cameras that just apply shadow recovery settings to the whole image, Sony has DRO levels that analyze and adjust the image by area to make the effect more natural and keep noise down.

Wireless Flash:

The built in flash is also a wireless trigger for the Sony Flashes and others including the old KM 5600hs and 3600HS, and some Sigma and Metz models. On some systems this is a $150 to $200 add on.

Remote abilities included:

For taking family shots etc. Sony has free wireless remote that lets you take trigger the camera or a 2 second delay then shoot. Plus tons of controls for showing and reviewing your images on a TV. If you hook up the camera to an HDMI TV and to a printer at the same time you can do a family slide show and tell it to print picture from the remote as people ask for copies.

It also has remote control software for the computer so you can set it up like a studio and shoot and review images from the attached PC. Great for doing lots of portraits at events without more expensive software or accessories.

It supports both Standard Video and HDMI output so you can see the images on your new HD TV.

Memory Card Support:

Unlike the 40D it supports the new UDMA 300x CF cards and memory stick pro HG so that you can take 25+ cRAW shots a 5 FPS before it needs to pause or an unlimited number of JPGS in any size. You can have both a CF card and Memory stick installed at the same time and switch over when one fills without stopping to open your bag and change memory cards.

Body Seals:

Its not splash proof but Sony has sealed all the doors and controls so dust and stray moisture will not hurt the camera. Some makers like Canon reserve full seals for more expensive cameras.

IT JUST FEELS GOOD IN MY HAND:

It was love at first touch.. a camera designed to fit in the hand.

Unless there is a specific lens or very special accessory that you need on another camera brand, this camera should be #1 or near the top of the list for cameras you consider.

Sony may be new to DSLRs, but they make sensors for lots other DSLRs like Nikon and when they bought the camera business they got most of the designers with years of experience from Minolta. Sony is building cameras for people who love photography and with features for people who like a camera to work with new technology like HD TVs. That makes it a fun camera to own.

I looked at the Canon 30D, 40D, Pentax K10D and Nikon D300 before choosing this camera.

BTW the Nikon D300, would be my second choice, but would cost much more, and still would have limited options on which lenses are stabalized.

I was looking for a pocketable camera that took decent pictures, had decent low light performance, and had a long reach. This is the newest of the offerings that I found that met the criteria (on paper).

I'm familiar with how well the smaller Fuji cameras do with their low light prowess, but that's due to a combination of the sensor and the glass they use. Since I am adding the requirement of a log reach lens, I am decreasing the quality of the optics and making it require more light during a shot (zoom lenses on cameras generally are lesser quality unless you're talking lenses in the $1000's).

I just got back from Cabo with the camera, and it did admirabley on both long shots. It has a great reach, but you need something more stable than your hands and the camera's stabilization to get good shots at 20x zoom..

I shot mostly in Aperture mode, but tried the "low light", "high contrast", and "portrait" auto modes, and looking at the shots on a big monitor, they all came out great. Sure there is some noise in the dark scenes, but it was far less than expected, and I could easily print a 8"x10" without it looking like a pixelated mess. I never used the flash beyond testing it out. I'm not a fan of the images any/most flashes produce.

I tried some video, and it looked good enough. I wish there also were a 1080p 30fps mode, as it only does 60fps when in 1080p mode. It would save some file space. I also wish there were no limitations on the length of video you can shoot, but inexplicably, on some of the slow motion modes, you are limited to 60 seconds maximum recording.

Overall, I am a fan of the newer sensor that the F900EXR has over the model it is replacing. I would definitely recommend it to friends.

I have used this microphone for small group and piano recording, and it's an excellent less expensive alternative to the more expensive Audio-Technica equivalents (which I have also owned and enjoyed).

The two big pluses are being able to use built-in batteries for long periods of use, without the inconvenience of phantom power, and the inherent viability of single-point stereo miking, which, as has been demonstrated for decades now, can result in a very pleasing stereo image.

The only "negative", which one would expect in this price range, is that, no, it's not fully up to the kind of quality you can get from large diaphragm, tubed, condensor microphones (such as the Neumann and its brethren). One would expect that. But this is a great 'starter' mic, a big step up from the super-cheapies, and a convenient mic for location recording, so long as you're not expecting 100% professional quality.

Very highly recommended, and I've had no problems or issues using this microphone at all.

The camera is great for someone who wants the option of independent control of functions such as shutter speed and aperture, remarkable for a camera that can fit into a large breast pocket. But taking advantage of all the options requires wading through a 315 page instruction manual that could be clearer. Features not used frequently will probably be lost to one's memory as nested menus and icons can only do so much. Many of the accessories packaged for the G15 such as the tripod were small and made a flimsy impression -in hindsight it might have been better to take the time to buy quality accessories individually. The promised memory card was missing.

I bought this camera when it first came out. It has been a good camera for my first underwater camera and for the price. But dont let the cheap price fool you. It takes great pictures. Just pay attention to the focus, if you are anywhere near 3 foot or closer, put it on macro believe it or not it will take a better pict, something to do with the built in wide angle lens I think. I had a problem with the underwater housing zoom button, contacted Sealife off their website and they replace dit with no hassle and I had my camera back within a week. The cutomer service through them was super great

I bought this lens as my 6th 50mm lens. Granted 3 are Canon mount and the other three are Sony Alpha mount. I bought it because it was said to be sharp wide open and it is! The only other 50 that is so is the Canon 50mm f2.5 [quasi] macro.

I love the color, contrast and sharpness of this lens on my A700. It is fast focusing and hits more than any other 50mm that I own. It is way more reliable than the Canon 50mm f1.4 for sure. From f2.8 on the Sony 50mm f1.4 is its equal and the Canon version is close. I choose this lens over my cz24-70mm f2.8 mostly due to the superior DOF and low light capability.

The only thing about this lens that might be a draw back is that it only only goes up to f16. If I need higher than that I have to use my Sony 50mm. Usually, I rarely go beyond f11.

I would recommend this lens to to anyone looking for a fast focusing, sharp and reliable 50mm.

I received my Gateway all-in-one desktop a couple of days ago (through another seller). It was manufacturer refurbished and came with no quick guide. While the PC was everything I expected and much more, the lack of installation guide almost ruined the whole system. I was impressed with less cables tangling under my desk, though I still have my old Windows Vista Jurassic at the other end of the room that served me well for 5 years. This PC identified and connected to my WiFi instantly. The display is dazzling with the brightness. Then I got to the wireless mouse and keyboard, and my nightmare began in earnest. I installed the batteries in both of them. They both would not work. After 3 hours of fruitless efforts and a couple of emails to the seller (waiting for the response), I finally located a wifi adapter hidden inside the mouse cover, to my dismay. That was after I have screwed up all the configurations inside the PC in all the efforts to troubleshoot. Then back to undo all the crap that I had caused myself by a reset. A simple quick guide could have saved me the migraine. Now the mouse, the keyboard and the entire system work just as expected and more. The installed windows 8 and the touch screen are very exciting and amazing.

Update: 4/27/13

This machine is going strong by the day. I had a minor scare 2 days. This is the story. I was uploading my updated website to the remote server and the system was going to 10 hours to complete the upload. The machine was literally at a crawl. I just could not upload to the server even after 3 attempts. Come to finally discover that to upload unto the server you may need to either stop other programs that are running or video streaming. Or you may need to just upload the only section of the website that is edited instead of the whole website contents, like I always do. Once I figured this out, my system is back to its old self. Now I can upload as fast as it comes. I love this machine....

Update: 10/3/13

I will downgrade to 4 stars. It is a good buy though. Sometimes this machine is annoyingly slow in response time. I still don't know how to speed up this machine during the slow period. It is not my WiFi connection. I have done all the maintenance required but with little change. At any rate, I like this machine.

Update: 10/7/13:

After some research on how to solve the slow response problem; I was able to zero in on some steps (on advice from a forum) to solve the problem. I went into to start up mode and disable several start ups applications that may not be critical to my needs. I disabled almost half of the start ups. Now this machine is working fine.... at least for now. The response time is faster and my productivity is per excellent. I will still leave the rating to 4 stars while I keep my fingers crossed.

Update: 10/26/13

As much as i like this AIO, I wish it could give 100% satisfaction. Sometimes it runs so sluggishly to a point of annoyance. I have to disk clean, defrag almost everyday to get it to respond normally. I keep all the updates current. I am worried this problem will continue. I like this PC but I am very worried. Looking to get a backup desktop. It may have to be another Brand name.

Update: 11/6/13

This AIO keeps disconnecting from the wifi (Internet). It reconnects after troubleshoots or disabling and re-enabling the connection. I also have a laptop with Windows 7 and 2 Desktops with Windows Vista. Also my android phone and tablets. All maintains stable wifi connections. So I guess the problem must be with the Windows 8.1 OS. All updates and patches did not resolve the problem. Anyway, I was able too zero in on the Network Adapter (Qualcom) inside this system. Two days ago, after much thought, I decided to connect (plug into the usb) one of my wireless network adapters that was lying idle on my desk. Guess what, the connection to wifi has been stable for the past 48 hours. There has been no freezing of the browsers and the internet connection has been good. I will keep my fingers crossed. i will keep the rating at 4 stars. One does not need to go through hassles.

Update: 11/11/13

Solution to the wifi continue disconnects. I think the Qualcom Adapter in this Gateway AIO may not have stable connection with my Zoom Access Point. No patches or updates will fix the problem. I disabled the pre-installed Qualcom adapter and connects an off market wifi adapter. I have not had a wifi disconnection for more than a week. Good news to me. I guess my frustration and annoyance may be over.

I recently purchased a Seagate BackUp Plus 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable Drive and have been impressed with this sleek, compact, quiet running drive that does its job admirably. Many thanks to the many user comments which helped in my decision making process. This review will focus on Styling, Setup / Ease of Use, Performance, Reliability and Value

STYLING / STURDINESS (5/5): The Seagate Backup Plus 1TB Drive arrives in a 8" x 10" cardboard box (not much bigger than the dimensions of the actual drive) and includes just the bare essential components the Portable Drive itself, 1 USB 3.0 connector cable, 1 Warranty Booklet and 1 Setup Instruction Guide. The Portable Drive itself (reviewing a red 1 TB version) weighs no more than a current generation dataphone (iphone etc) and boasts a brushed metallic red finish on the top / cover plate which is aesthetically pleasing, as well as functional in that it feels sturdy to the touch and does not seem to attract fingerprints. Given that this drive is not advertised (and not priced) as a 'Rugged' or 'Drop resistant' portable drive, I did not 'Stress test' the drive and plan to treat it much as I would any other portable electronic gadget eg. a laptop. The included USB 3.0 cable is 12-15" long (definitely portable, but admittedly on the short side) and of good quality with thick protective coating along the entire cable. The cable ports are USB 3.0 (backwards compatible with USB 2.0) on one end and a proprietary Seagate port on the side which plugs into the drive which might irritate some buyers. The only drawback of this proprietary port is that you will have to buy a replacement / extra cable from Seagate and not any electronics retailer so you lose some of the convenience aspect to replacement but given Seagate's reputation for reliability this should not be an issue for most folks.

SETUP / EASE OF USE / SOFTWARE (5/5): The Setup Instruction Guide includes 2 steps plug the included cable into the Seagate portable drive, and plug the other end into your computers USB port. It really is that simple as it should be hence my perfect score on 'Setup and Ease of Use'. Once you plug the drive into your computer (I used Win 7), Windows will automatically detect the drive and download the latest driver software to allow you to access it. This usually takes less than a minute and once this process has completed (you are notified via a popup window), you can access the drive by going to 'Start My Computer' which will list all the available drives including your new Seagate Portable Drive. The drive is now ready for use Two Step Simple Incredible! Once you access the drive itself you will see the pre-installed files for the Seagate Dashboard Backup Software Double click the Seagate Dashboard Installer icon to start installation of the backup software. I have traditionally preferred to not be tied to third party proprietary software and like to manage my backups manually so did not install it and cannot comment on that part of the product. If you do not want the software, do not double click on any icons but instead either delete the software files or create a new folder and dump all the pre-installed software files into that folder in case you change your mind on using the software later. The drive is otherwise ready for use and you can create folders / drag and drop your files as needed. One point of note a 1TB drive comes with only 930 Gigs of useable space out of the box the rest taken up by the Seagate Dashboard software / formatting etc. Losing 7% of your capacity from the get-go is kind of annoying but similar to pre-loads on a new PC.

PERFORMANCE / SPEED TESTS: (4.5/5): My PC is not USB 3.0 equipped so please note that my speed tests were based on USB 2.0 and therefore not indicative of the true performance capabilities of this product. Nevertheless, I was able to achieve transfer speeds PC to Portable Drive of 1.8 2.0 Gigs per minute while transferring ~150 Gigs of content in little over an hour. Additionally, the Seagate Portable drive has a white indicator light on one end that lights up when the drive is plugged in and flashes slowly while in use. The drive does runs slightly warm after an hour or so of continuous use (eg. during my initial transfer) but again this is something which is pretty common for most external drives and other portable electronics.

RELIABILITY (N/A): Will not be able to comment on product reliability until I have consistently tested / used the product for 6-18 months, but based on the consistency of previous user comments and Seagate's stellar reputation as a bellweather in the industry, I expect this drive to hold up well over time. I will of course be sure to loudly voice my displeasure if this is not the case :)

VALUE (4/5): This was one area where I felt Seagate could improve but $100 $110 for a 1TB drive is in-line with the market / competitors in 2012. There are cheaper options (eg. WDs Passport 1TB for $90) and more expensive options (HP or LaCie 1TB for $125 to $175 range) and Seagate's BackUp Plus runs right along the mid range between the two. One important point to consider plan to get the highest capacity drive you can afford / or want to spend on storage, as the higher capacity drives present the best value for example Seagate's 500GB drive is $90, 1 TB is $110 and 2 TB is $150. On a pure dollar / GB basis it is hard to ever recommend the 500 GB drive when for $20 more, you get double the storage capacity....and so on.

SUMMARY (PROS / CONS):

PROS:

Seagate Brand / Reputation for Reliability

Aesthetically Pleasing

Compact yet Sturdy Build

Super Easy Set-Up (2 step Process)

No forced use of Software / Bloatware

Runs Quiet and Good Performance (in line with competitor read/write ranges)

Future Proofed (USB 3.0 standard, Backwards USB 2.0 Compatible and Future Proofed with removable Adapter options)

Mac OS and Windows Compatible

Decent Price Point

CONS:

'Nothing Special' Backup Software (its free for a reason)

No Password Protection / Security Option

CONCLUSION:

In conclusion, I compared a number of drives from different manufacturers before deciding on Seagates BackUp Plus including drives from WD (Passport series), LaCie, HP, Buffalo Technology, Silicon-Power Rugged etc. This drive does not include some notable and desirable features of some other competitor drives like Security / Password protection, Drop Resistance etc and everyone will need to weigh which features are indispensible / most important to them. But for me, Seagate's combination of stellar reputation in the industry for reliability, included features, overall ease of use, overwhelmingly positive user comments (or alternatively the glaring lack of mixed to negative feedback as some other products have), aesthetics and price point proved to be a winning combination. Very Highly Recommended A ++

Let me start by saying that I teach a digital photography class at the local community college, and I've seen/used/taught about every major brand and many minor brands of digital cameras, and I think every manufacturer makes a camera that is right for different people with different requirements. That being the case, the alpha900 is amazing. The resolution is not only record breaking, but the clarity of each of those pixels is quite good (with the right lens). The image stabilization on a full-frame sensor is a first (and so far, only). 5 Frames per second? At 24.6 megapixels? It is a testament to Sony's knowledge of electronics. The view finder really does exemplify why "live view" is more of a marketing checklist item, and not really necessary; looking through the view finder is a joy.

But, the world of the a900 isn't all roses. If you have a collection of Sony/Minolta lenses, hopefully they're all full-frame. Yes, the a900 supports APS-C lenses, but there is no real advantage to them with this body over other Sony DSLRs. The a900 does "find focus" better than previous Sony DSLRs, but the location of the focus points aren't as well laid out as other Sony models. While I usually carry an external flash, so the lack of a pop-up flash isn't a problem for me, many users will find the lack of one to be, at least, an annoyance.

And last, but certainly not least, is post production once the images are off of the camera. If you primarily shoot in RAW (as I do), and do much post-production, be prepared to bring your computer to it's knees. These files are huge, and all that wonderful resolution comes at cost; that being the amount of pure computing horsepower required.

Given those few caveats, the alpha900 really is a big step forward in digital SLRs, in many ways. If you can justify the cost of this body, it really is worth having, and you'll be surprised at just how much detail a single image can have when its almost 25 megapixels.

I got this phone and net10 pre-paid service because I was paying over $50 a month with AT&T's cheapest plan and was only using 100 minutes a month and a handful of texts. This is a great basic phone strictly for making calls and texts. It doesn't come with any minutes (except 10 bonus minutes for activation) but you can buy these cards pretty much anywhere that sells prepaid cards. The minutes are THE cheapest of any prepaid service and your minutes roll over each month. AWESOME! The phone doesn't look cheap at all. It is shiny, sleek and modern looking. The best deal on cards is the 300 minutes for $30 and 60 days of service. Thats $15 a month. Texts only use half a minute of time! One of the best things is that Net10 uses the AT&T network so you are covered everywhere and they don't charge roaming charges! If you are thinking of getting pre-paid service go with Net10, it is the best hands down!

This review is for the Primos Truth Cam Blackout Model 63035, not the 63050 Model as pictured on some websites, so look at the model numbers. From what I read, I think the 63035 Model has been out a little longer than the 63050 Model, camo color, and has two less LEDs. There is not much info on these Blackout cameras, so here are some of the specs:

1. Camera is 9" ht, 7" wide, 2" thick

2. 6 volt camera and has external battery port

3. Requires 4 D batteries

4. Requires SD card 1GB to 32GB

5. Has 60 LED Settings allow you to use 36 LED or 60 LED

6. Takes 2MP, 3.1MP, 5 MP, or 7MP photos

7. Takes 15S High Res, 15S Low Res, 30S High Res, 30S Low Res, or 60S Low Res videos

8. At 3.1MP, the SD card can hold the following: 1GB=820 pics, 2GD=1650 pics, 4GD=3300 pics, 8GD=11420 pics, 16GD=13220 pics, 32GD=26440 pics. At 2MP, the camera will hold about a third more images.

9. Will record time, date, moon phase, temperature

10. Has a delay of 5 sec, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, 5 min, 10 min, 30 min, and 60 min.

11. Has photo burst of 1, 3, and 5

12. Has 3 sensing modes: low, normal, and high

13. 1 sec or less trigger speed

14. Pictures are color during day shots, b/w at night

15. Comes with 72" strap and will except security cable lock

16. Instruction manual says batteries can last a year using minimum delay and photo burst

I just purchased the Primos Truth Cam Blackout, so I will update this review after some more use.

I put the camera out last night to test and it was very easy to set up. It has a push button digital control panel that illuminates with large digital text. Standing inches from the camera and staring directly into the blackout flash, you see a very, very, very small hint of red when the camera takes a picture, but cannot be detected if more than 8" away.

This morning I had 441 pictures on the camera. This was using a 30 sec delay with 3 burst. There were no pictures that were blank and all had visible wildlife. A couple of images had an animal or two that were blurred, but the camera remained focus within the shot.

Remember, an SD card with a faster download speed allows you to use less battery, save images faster, and will keep up with the camera trigger speeds. If you have a camera with an awesome trigger speed but your SD card cannot download the images quickly enough, you will start getting blank photos. I recommend purchasing a higher quality SD card.

So far, I'm happy with the purchase. I'm not the biggest fan of Primos, but after a lot of research, this seems to be one of the better cameras on the market for the money.

UPDATE AS OF OCTOBER 14, 2011

I have now had two of these units in the field from August 27 to October 14. First thing is setup. The camera comes with a strap that is worthless when hunting Texas mesquite/scrub brush, but the camera does have four threaded holes on the back of it for the Primos bracket. I didn't use the Primos bracket but instead attached the camera using some u-bolts to a 2 inch steel pipe driven in the ground 5 feet. It's nice and tight. I prefer this method actually because too many cows and deer have moved my cameras in the past. These cameras had a 16GB SD card HQ and the settings were on 3.1 MP, 1 minute photo burst, normal sensing, and 60 LED flash.

First camera had 16008 pictures and the batteries had very little juice left. Camera had recent pictures from October 14.

Second camera had 5760 pictures and the batteries were dead. Last pictures taken were on September 15. How does one only last three weeks and the other seven weeks, I have no idea. In the past, I've purchased bad batteries off the shelf and this may be the reason. These were Duracell's so I thought they would have performed better.

Another thing I noticed about this camera is that as the pictures went on, the night flash range was not as wide or long, but you could still make out the animals within some distance. I'm sure this was due to the batteries losing juice.

As for weather, winds speeds get really high and there was some tree movement that set the camera off; not to many times, but some. These trees were about 50 feet away. After having 4 inches of rain the week before, there were no signs of moisture in the units.

In conclusion, I think the cameras are performing well have taken some great pictures at these feeders. I have tried to include a variety of pictures of day and night, so I hope this helps everyone when comparing and researching game cameras.

UPDATE AS OF 11/06/11

This weekend I checked the cameras again. The two cameras had about 11500 pictures each since the last update; same camera settings. Duracell batteries were replaced 3 weeks ago and only had 10% life left on both. I'm thinking this was probably due to the weather moving through the area causing it to get down to 18 degrees. Colder temps have always eaten up battery life quickly. Next week I'm putting a solar panel and rechargeable battery on these things. Pictures are still good and the units had moisture sitting on them this morning; no visible signs of moisture in the units. I was also in the blind at 530 this morning and there were no visible flashes while the unit was taking photos. Besides being a little disappointed with the battery life, the units are starting to fade. Really could care less about the fading as long as the plastic housing doesn't start too brittle from sun exposure. I assume Primos puts a UV protectant in their moldings and this is only effecting color. We'll see how these will do thru the winter.

UPDATE AS OF 11/14/11

This weekend I checked the cameras again and they're working great. Besides eating up some batteries, the pictures are really nice and crisp and the camera have no visible flash; I have gotten thousands of great pictures this season. I'm really happy with the purchase.

I wanted a camera that had more Zoom capability than my old camera but was also easy to carry in my pocket or purse. The Panasonic Lumix met both of these requirements. It has many nice features including the ability to do panaramic shots. I am excited to take it on vacation and get some wonderful scenic shots! So far I've used it to take pictures of my grandchildren and they've turned out very clear and sharp! I would recommend this for anyone who likes to take good pictures with a minimum of technical knowledge!

I'm a LE sniper, and my agency purchased this rangefinder for our standard sniper loadout. It seems to work nice. The 6x magnification helps, and the unit quickly reads out to 500 yards. I haven't tested it further than that.

This is one of those nice cameras that's so well done, it's easier to talk about what the camera ISN'T, rather than what it IS! This camera is not a small, shirt pocket camera, and might be a bit bigger than a woman would wish to carry in a purse. It's not a super-tele camera, but it does have a respectable, bit longer than average 4x optical zoom.

Using the camera, it has a good weight and feel for average sized hands. The use of AA batteries helps keep the cost down, and has it's own advantages, although some may prefer the longer life charges of Lithium-Ion batteries (I do). General, controls are well thought out and easy to use. The zoom is nice and smooth.

For those that prefer an optical viewfinder, Canon is probably the strongest supporter, and this is a better than average viewfinder, although it does not have a diopter adjustment. But you'll probably never use it with the tremendous 2.5" rotary screen. Yes, there are 3" screens on the market, but this dwarfs anything on a hinge! It is a great aid in composing photos at low, high, or other odd angles (photos you simply didn't take before).

Another feature that gets high praise is the flex-focus system. Today's AF cameras do a decent job, but occassionally, they just don't hit on the right focus point. With the flex system, you can determine which point to use. This is simply great for crowded rooms or nature photos where the subject may not be the closest item within the focusing areas.

Control for this price point is very good indeed. Multiple "scene" modes make it easy for the novice (ok, or sometimes lazy pro), while the semi-auto and manual modes give even experienced users all they need.

Simply put, this camera could have easily been priced $50 to $100 more. The only real competition is the A640, $100 more, 10 meg, and a bit more attractive black finish.

I got this system almost 6 mths ago. I do not change any setting with the record period 30 min. every section, not sure why most of the time it will never record the whole 30 min. but after 5 10 min record will jump to next section. so several times it miss the most important moment like UPS drop off package etc. I put a 1 TB HDD into it and the system should able to atomically erase the oldest record that should not have any space issue. Their original cameras are not too good the visible distance is very limited at night. I changed two out of 4 cameras to other brand name which is not too expensive but can cover almost 50% more.
