I bought this for a front facing camera on my vehicle, I did not want to use my phone anymore especially with all the new cell phone rules. I wanted a front facing video camera the is out of sight out of mind yet if I need to look at something I can it records time and date also sound and has great picture quality. It arrived on time with great customer service with personal notes attached making sure everything arrived on time and in perfect condition, most companies that I buy from do not send personal notes with info if anything is wrong and this company did. The exception to that is when I buy plants and seeds they like to know how there products are doing. The camera works with video and with still shots, it is recording when you record it noticeable and un noticeable. you can turn the viewing monitor off and the video camera keeps recording and or you can turn the monitor on and watch what you are recording. I then tried several things and they all worked, first I took the memory card out and downloaded all videos and pictures to my computer, then I watched all pictures and video on device itself, I then took memory card and plugged into my vehicles monitor and played back, I then directly connected my computer to the device and watched and downloaded everything onto my computer. I have a 4TB hard-drive that I keep all my pictures and video on. I recommend a separate Hard-drive from your computer to store all your memories forever. Great product and Great Quality. I will update this as I have it since I just got it yesterday. I want to see how it reacts over time and in different weather and temperatures I am from IL. So right now the Temps are in the 90s with very high humidity. I want to try and see how it reacts to winter and fall, different changes in temperature

I bought this about two weeks ago when it was on sale for under three hundred bucks. I have been using a Macbook Pro for the last 4 years, which is great but which is also my wife's computer. With the kids and I also trying to use her computer I figured it was time to pony up for a second laptop.

Pluses:

1. Price

2. functions just fine for internet, watching DVDs, You Tube, Itunes, etc. no noticable difference in quality of images or streaming from my high end Mac.

3. Costs less than a netbook, has a dvd player/recorder.

4. Battery life is actually very good 4+ hours so far for regular surfing. video knows it down to about 3 hours.

Fairly solid feel to it for being a hunk of plastic

Back has all sorts of access panels for people that want to change out the hard drive or add more RAM

My Age of Mythology game works just fine on it.

Minuses:

#1 gripe no HDMI port. Bummer. HAs some cheesy aavi port but I haven't bothered to figure out if I can convert that to HDMI. Whoops on their part, but then agin, this thing cost me less than most netbooks.

Speakers are lousy. If you mess with the EQ and SRS Wow you can get it to an aceptable level, but out of the box they sound like they are tin cans. Fine with headphones.

Keyboard is okay does not have a high quality feel to it. easier to type mistakes than on my Mac.

Windows 7 is...... nothing more than XP with a couple of the bugs fixed and an interface that makes it harder to find things if you are used to XP or 2000.

Boot of programs is a bit slow. I think this could be a WIndows issue more than a hardware issue.

Ovberall works just fine for a cheap laptop. don't need to pay twice as much if all you do is surf the net and watch TV on it.

At first I was undecided, my options were the Motorola Atrix, Inspire 4G and the Infuse 4G. I owned a Samsung Captivate and loved it, save for the GPS, everything was nice so you may think my comment is a little biased. The Atrix has a dual core, more RAM and it was cheaper, but I read bad things about a heating problem, bad battery life and the burdensome of MotoBlur, I suppose most of those cons were fixed with the recent Gingerbread update, so what I'm saying may or may not be valid anymore. The Inspire 4G was attractive, I'd always read good things about the handcrafted quality put on HTC's devices, hardware and software wise. The big letdown was the small battery (only 1230 mAh) and less storage capacity. At the end, I was used to a Samsung smartphone which was reliable and there I had the Infuse that was the middle brother between the Captivate and the Galaxy S II and even I considered the former I concluded I wasn't going to pay $180 more for a smartphone that was going to be a second faster than a single-core one, besides most of my utility for this kind of device is browsing and music. Before buying the Infuse I was afraid of its size, I thought it wasn't going to be that portable or comfortable to handle. That fear disappeared once I held the device for the first time, most of the reviews praise the slim factor but for me it wasn't too noticeable compared to the Captivate which is a very slim phone also. The main reason it felt so good in the hand is the design, specifically the edges which are squarer and plainer than the Captivate, besides the up bezel is narrower. The tight jeans were the final test, it slid without problem and I couldn't tell the difference between the Infuse and the Captivate. The Infuse offers a splendid 4.5" Super AMOLED Plus display, same tech than GSII but 0.2" larger. The camera is 8 MP and it delivers very good quality (I'm not sure but I read it uses the same optics than GSII). The battery is not great but it is above average among smartphones, with my Captivate, considering same usage pattern, batt lasted 10 hours compared to 12 hours with the Infuse. I use my phone as my primary music player, so sound quality is pretty important for me. The Infuse relies on the Wolfson audio chip (the same on the Captivate), which can be greatly optimized using the Voodoo Sound app on the market; I read this audio chip is superior to the one on the GSII (Yamaha branded). Even though the Infuse is still single core, with the same central and graphics processors than the Captivate, the CPU has been overclocked 20%, I believe this increment plus some software optimizations give a better user experience than the Captivate, the interface is butter smooth, I've noticed little to none sluggishness. I'm not a hardcore mobile gamer so I can't guarantee the Infuse will play the most demanding games out there, but for the casual gamer, the Infuse is powerful enough. The browser is the typical Android webkit based, in my opinion it lacks functionality though it's snappy, I recommend Dolphin HD browser, free on the market. Flash HD video playback on the browser is not good enough due to constant framerate drop, however Flash banners play well (but who wants to see Flash ads). I haven't been lucky with GPS, the Infuse has a hard time trying to get a satellite lock, maybe it's just my case because some people are reporting good GPS performance on forums. Some people regret that the Infuse comes with Froyo and no Gingerbread, personally having installed several Gingerbread custom ROMs on my Captivate, I haven't missed GB a bit, the Infuse Froyo build is so stable and the improvements between the two versions aren't apparent to the final user anyway. Bottom line, if you are into browsing and music, I do recommend the Infuse hands down due to its responsive user interface, large beautiful screen, rich audio output, excellent casual camera and good battery life. On the other hand, if you are a heavy multitasker and hardcore gamer or you just simply must have la crème de la crème, you should buy a Galaxy S II.

I purchased around 5 different digital microscopes over the years for the company i work for. Finally i ran across this one. I did end up purchasing the cover and additional light source (both a must have for this unit. there are some minor issues i did not like on this unit but the things i liked out-way them.

PROS:

1: at 0.5x setting i can put a part about 4 inches from the lense and it will allow me to focus at different depths depending

what i need to shoot.

2: the focus on the eyepieces are nice and clear.

3: once i figured out the lever that you need to pull far out on the left side to close off the left eye piece i got

great shots from the digital camera. (pulling this lever part of the way out only gives you blurry images at best in the digital camera).

4: the head unit can be tilted for angle views. and the height can be adjusted for larger or smaller parts.

CONS:

1: the manual, well is horrible. i was able to setup the unit by going to the web site and review the multiple photos

then assembling them together.

2: the screw mount (plastic) that attaches to the lense and holds the circular led is not threaded correctly. it hangs

literally by a thread. and can strip very easy when switching the lenses.

3: after some use on tilting the microscope the clamps do not hold and will move the arm that holds the head unit.

4: i purchased the Nikon camera attachment because at first the digital camera was shooting horribly bury images. i discovered with no help from the manual that the lever on the left side of the unit has to be pulled a lot farther out. feels like your going to pull it off. when doing this the digital camera shoots excellent. i found that the lever needs to close off the left eye piece before the digital camera is clear.

5: at the default setting the camera comes out bury, the mount that the unit rests on needs to be unscrewed about 1/8 before the digital camera comes into focus with the eye piece. there about 3/4 to 1 inch travel before the mount is totally unscrewed.

CONCLUSION:

it does what we need to use it in Engineering for and plan on purchasing another unit for the Quality Control Department.

Quick Summary: Foscam is manufacturing and selling cameras with a known manufacturing defect. If the camera is pointed at a scene with too much detail (trees, grass, wood grain, window screen, etc) the camera will fail by either freezing, displaying black or rebooting. This defect was introduced as the result of a sensor change late in 2012. This manufacturing defect has been confirmed by Foscam as the DSP and a repair procedure has been made available. However, Foscam (the manufacturer) has released themselves of responsibility for repairing this defect. To be clear, Foscam acknowledges this manufacturing problem but refuses to be responsible for repairing the cameras. Currently, 370 faulty cameras have been reported in the Foscam forums. Exchanging the camera does not correct the problem as +91% of exchanges have the same defect (also detailed in the forums). The small percentage of successful exchanges are explained as old 2012 inventory. Users also confirm that Foscam continues to manufacture cameras with this defect. It seems that Foscam simply hopes users will not notice the defect or incorrectly identify the problem as cabling or networking gear. Do not buy this camera, or any other Foscam MJPEG camera unless you want to gamble with this known and confirmed freezing/black/rebooting problem. Based on the quality of support I recommend staying away from all Foscam cameras in general. They are inexpensive, but your time and sanity are worth a far greater value.

(Original Review The contents of this review and the three updates have been summarized above)

This review is to alert potential buyers to a substantial hardware problem with the Foscam 8904, 8905, 8906 and 8910 cameras. As the image complexity increases, there is a point where the video stream fails and remains in this failed state until the video encoder is manually reset by the user. The trigger point for failure is a function of the complexity of the image; inputs to this function include the scene being recorded, the intensity of the sunlight at any given time, and the software image adjustment settings (brightness and contrast). This problem is well documented on the Foscam user forums. For more information, do a web search for "8910 hanging rebooting based on image data" (other models are documented here as well). You will find a thread where the bug is reproduced by many users with a variety of Foscam models. The power supply, firmware, webUI, and network type have all been ruled out as sources of the problem. The working theory is that this bug affects all Foscam MJPEG cameras manufactured after a specific date. Users are trying to determine the specific date that introduced the hardware change that causes the bug.

For me, this problem first exhibited itself by the camera failing every afternoon. It took awhile to isolate the problem, but it was because the sunlight was brighter in the afternoon. The bright sunlight intensifies the luminosity changes in my scene and the image detail increases. The increased detail causes the video encoder to fail.

Buying one of these cameras is a gamble. If you are lucky, then the scene you are recording will naturally have a lower level of detail. This would include walls that are a solid color, shaded areas, and large sections of solid sky. If you are unlucky, then your scene will have too much detail (grass or light through tree leaves) and you will be at the mercy of your encoder failing every time the sun comes out from behind the clouds.

I've literally spent over a month in an ongoing email conversation with Foscam's support, tech support, and the R&D team and they are unable to reproduce the problem. Many other users have been receiving the same response from Foscam. Until Foscam acknowledges this problem and provides a solution, I do not recommend buying this camera. I'm surprised by the sheer volume of 5 star reviews, and suspect some potential manipulation by Foscam.

Update:

It has now been two months and I (and other users) continue to communicate with Foscam. The cause of this error was likely a sensor change that was introduced by Foscam in late 2012. It took several months before this hardware change trickled into the consumer market. The reason that Foscam has been unable to reproduce the problem is because they have been testing on older lab units; this problem only exists on units that have been manufactured since implementing the sensor change in late 2012. The forum thread mentioned above currently contains 82 cameras documented with this problem and 14 RMA's where the replacement cameras have also exhibited the same problem. One of Foscam's resellers has sent them a camera that exhibits the problem, but Foscam has remained silent on confirming any of the testing results from this specific camera. As it currently stands, the faulty cameras are likely still being produced and Foscam continues to fail in providing a solution for current/future owners. The bad news is that it took months for the hardware change to make it into the consumer pipeline. If Foscam ever decides to actually fix this issue by changing the sensor, then it will likely again take months before the new functional hardware makes it into consumer's hands. Even then, there will probably be pockets of old hardware still trickling out to consumers.

Update 2:

After 39 e-mails back and forth, I just recieved a confirmation from Foscam of this hardware problem. The e-mail is below.

"For the issue that MJ cameras reboot when light is too bright and the environment is very exquisite, our engineers find the reason and provide the solution. The reason for this issue is that if the environment is special (light is very bright and has many grass and trees), the picture size may beyond the DSP buffer. It can solved by flash the the DSP driver of the sensor board. Please contact your reseller to have repair.

Have a nice day!"

It is unclear if Foscam plans on continuing to manufacture the cameras with the DSP bug or if they will begin reflashing the DSP as a part of manufacturing. Based on their track record, if they do plan on making a change I doubt it will be any time soon. To correct the problem current cameras need to be shipped back and the DSP must be flashed. It is good that Foscam has confirmed the problem and can provide a fix for ambitious current camera owners. But, I think we are going to continue to have new users purchasing faulty hardware and identifying this problem for a significant amount of time.

Update 3:

This update will repeat some if the information already available in the quick summary up top. Foscam has now provided a repair solution. However, they have also claimed that Foscam (the manufacturer) is not responsible for the repair of this manufacturing defect. Foscam claims it is the individual resellers, in this case Amazon, who are responsible for repairing the cameras. I wholeheartedly disagree with this, but that is Foscam's stance. Users in the forums have compiled the steps of this repair procedure together along with a list of required parts/cable as a DIY project. The DIY repair will likely void your warranty on a brand new camera, but it is good to know that this option exists. The end result of this issue is that the defect has been confirmed by Foscam and a repair solution has been provided. But, they claim no responsibility in actually performing the repair. Foscam has been the definition of difficult through the entire process and so I do not recommend buying any Foscam cameras. I recommend finding an alternative even if it costs a little more money, your time and sanity are worth it.

The EF 24-105L is the workhorse of the standard zoom range for Canon. A pro-level lens that covers the range of almost every "kit" lens, the 24-105 is tack-sharp, crisp, a jewel of a lens. Having been through several consumer level lenses in a search for something as sharp as the 21-105, I finally broke down, sold two other lenses and sprung for the L series. Not a single regret. The lens is heavier than kit lenses of the same range, but this reflects the quality of the glass. I know that a lense won't make me a better photographer, but having this lense makes me more aware of what is in the viewfinder, helps me to slow down, squeeze carefully and have a much higher rate of good shots. If you're thinking in this direction, I recommend that you take the leap and go for it. I also suggest that you consider a refurbished lens. Buying off the shelf may get a longer warantee, but there is no guarantee that your particular lens was individually inspected. A refurbished lens will have been throroughly inspected for accuracy and defects.

After years of being a very faithful Sony user (I still like Sony and their products) I finally did the big leap, as in my mind the technology is finally there ... I bought a Canon EOS-1Ds 11.1 Megapixel camera body. Out of necessity I had to buy a set of EF lenses as well. I spent this years toy budget on just one purchase, but then THIS IS NOT TOY!

My last Sony was a F828 and before that a P10. The F828 is a great consumer product for the price, but it actually made me do the leap as good as it is, as it brought back my spirit for creating a REALLY good picture. I started to spend so much time to get to the right photo spot at the right time, that I did not want to have a lack of functionality then. I used to do a lot of photography 20 years ago on film, but returned as a point and shoot fotographer when digital came about. To say it with fellow countryman 'Arnie' "I'm back."

First I need to say that all Amazon partnershops performed and delivered flawlessly, my special mention goes to Adorama Camera. I would usually be worried to spend so much money on the web, but Amazon takes that away.

Now to the 'beast' itself the EOS-1Ds body. I will not go into all the functional details, as to my mind they are all correct as stated. The camera is great to hold and work with total confidence. But at first big disappointment. I was unable to concentrate on working with a professional camera. I was too used to point and shoot and expected the camera to do it all for me. Well, it does not. You need to know or learn photography for this one. It is now four weeks and 2500 pictures later and finally there is only one reason for a photo not to be perfect ME!

Biggest difference to other products is the film-size 24x36 CCD and the ability to set the ASA film sensitivity up to 1250 on the fly rather than having to change film. Not always is a tripod at hand or the photo subject would wait until you set it up and then hold still for a 2 second exposure. I could not ask the helicopter pilot to stop the vibration during a dawn flight over the Las Vegas Strip. Setting to ASA1250 shortened exposure time to s/50. The picture noise that you get as a consequence is dramatically reduced by the noise reduction feature and much less than the grain of a high-sensitivity film.

Cautions and recommendations: Learning how to clean the sensor from dust and dirt without damaging it is essential. This camera is VERY heavy you will need a strong tripod to hold it. Buy a second battery, even so the charging is quick and it usually lasts for two normal days of use. Using a CF card reader is easier than buying a Firwire attachment for your PC. Use 2GB high-speed Compactflash for convenience, it will give you 400 pictures in JPG. Feel free to send me questions, which I will answer as much as I can.

If you're looking for a simple point-and-shoot that you can take underwater, this camera is great.

Let me begin by explaining that I am an avid photographer; I have over $10,000 in high end DSLR equipment and lenses. I have over 20,000 photos in my collection. I know something about photography.

I recently went on a sailing vacation with my family and wanted a simple digital camera to take in the water. I wasn't looking for something high-end because all i really wanted to do was shoot pics of my kids snorkeling and scuba diving. I didn't want a disposable because they aren't digital, you usually have to wind them which is a real pain in the water, and they shoot poor pictures. My wife bought me a $500 top-of-the-line underwater point-and-shoot Panasonic Lumix but I took it back because it was overkill. It was waterproof to 40 feet, had an altimeter, etc - I didn't need all that. I found this Kodak camera and it was perfect. It worked great -we took on jet skis, on snorkeling trips, and down to 11 feet underwater scuba diving. It never had an issue -it started up quickly, operated simply and reliably, and the photos are just fine. Frankly, the videos are even better -I was surprised at good they are! Of course, the photos don't compare to my $2,000 Nikon DSLR, but I wasn't expecting them to. I just wanted a camera that could capture some of the memories of the water fun on our sailing trip, and this did it.

Arrived just in time for sons last flag football game and is taking great shots! First DSLR camera had an SLR years ago and loved it so it was good to get back into it with this one. Couldnt be happier with the quality of the unit and it was pretty easy to get going with some basic picture taking. It does take some time to get accustomed to some of the features and whatnot the camera offers we have just skimmed the surface. Be ready to read and play with it some to start then play and read more to really get going well worth the pics you get though...

Quality of the unit is top notch did some comparisons was going to go with a Nikon D7000 but decided to save some cash this camera gives you pretty high quality in the product itself and the pics it takes for the price. My borther-in-law has the D7000 and it is a nice camera but I couldn't justify twice the money for our purposes....

So far planning on some add-ons such as a flash for bounce flash photography and macro lenses for close ups and other things we want to get into.....price of those add-ons was better than what Nikons prices were overall not a whole lot but for a family of five we watch our pennies....

**Upfront advice:

if you're looking for excellent disc playback and streaming performance, buy this player.

This is my fourth network streaming BD player in the past 15 months, and it's the only one that seems to do everything right.

**Positives:

Wireless streaming totally works on the BDT320. Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon have not given me any problems. No rebuffers, no freezes, no disconnections. This was my single biggest complaint about the other players I tried (two Samsungs and one LG).

The player's picture quality from discs is excellent, for either Blu Ray or DVD (the DVD picture is surprisingly good, actually).

This thing is fast -faster than the other three players I had. It's fast to load, and fast to navigate. The menus are clean, polished and responsive. Even the streaming app menu responds quickly, although the Netflix app itself is rather slow.

Build quality is quite good, and the design is very attractive and unique.

**Negatives:

There's really only one, and it's minor: the remote uses a touchpad that can be tricky. I applaud the concept, because it's a great way to control the player without having to look at the remote. And it does work...sort of. It's just too inconsistent, sometimes missing gestures, and other times responding incorrectly to gestures. Also, some of the player functions are accessible only through the touchpad using onscreen menus. This means that there's no way to teach these commands to a universal remote, so accessing them will require several button presses instead of one.

All in all, the remote hasn't been an issue. I use a Harmony One universal remote, and although the code set for the BDT320 isn't yet in the Harmony online database, by using the code set from last year's Panasonic BD players I was able to get most of the functionality of the BDT320's stock remote. As I noted above, some functions are menu driven, so the remote can't learn them, but on the upside, using last year's player codes gave me buttons not available on the BDT320 remote such as Eject and discrete On and Off.

**Unknown:

I have not attempted to play burned DVD media, and I don't do network (DLNA) or hard-drive streaming (such as for DiVX files) so I can't comment on any of this.

**Bottom line:

For user-friendly, high-quality playback of discs and streamed content, this player is a winner. As an early adopter, I paid $180.00, and I definitely believe I got my money's worth.

I am and always have been skeptical of buying digital cameras. This is the cheapest entry and also one of the newest from Nikon that has a CMOS sensor rather than a CCD sensor. Let the argument go on who is better. When the lighting is sun light, the Nikon shines and creates wonderful photos. Low light, of course, is a typical offender of ruining a good picture. If the flash is used, most of the time it does a good job to make everything look natural and not "over-toned" in anyway or display odd contrast properties.

I think this is a great product and really sells itself when you view the information offered on Nikons web site.

5/14/2012 UPDATE : The flash stopped firing. I went through the reference manual and played out all scenarios in which the Flash should fire and it is not. The flash has been deemed defective my Nikon and I have been granted a return authorization. This is upsetting but I hope Nikon can give a quick turn around with my camera or just give me a new unit all together. I really do enjoy the camera when it works!

5/24/2012 6/12/2012 UPDATE : I finally got the camera back from Nikon, parts hold made it longer than normal. I was quoted in 7-10 business days I would have the camera back and that was not true. 13 business days and a whole lot of horrible communication. I would never buy a Nikon product after the customer "service" I received.

When my Canon scanner broke, without hesitation, they sent me a new scanner and said stick the old on in the new box and attach the pre-paid shipping label. Said it would take 5-7 days and it arrived in 2 days. Canon > Nikon in customer service department.

2/1/2013 UPDATE : Camera still works, takes great pictures, has great battery life. I cannot say a terrible thing about the camera when it works. Yes it was annoying after it broke shortly. Yes, Nikon was over the "scheduled" time period of replacement, but it works now and still takes great pictures. They made this one cheaper, recently, so it is even a better buy unless technology did a 180* in some other direction I am not aware of.

7/27/2013 UPDATE : Camera still taking great pictures, great battery life, great quality shots when the lighting is there. The only thing that I dislike is what I believe to be the most common fault of all point and shoot cameras which is the low light level pictures tend to lose a bit of quality. Sometimes the automatic color picks the incorrect filter but can you really blame the device when light bulbs come in so many different temperatures now a days? I have three different temperature light bulbs in my house, some share the same room and it can throw off the auto colors, a few quick and painless button selections and you can choose your own color filter to make the picture match the natural colors you are trying to capture. During close up shots, the flash can be a bit over bearing but rarely does this happen.

I recently decided to get this camera and sell off my TRV900 because I really found I needed something smaller to carry around. It was a tough choice, as the image quality and stills from the TRV900 were decidedly better. But I just couldn't pass up the size. This one is so small for the features you get. It has many, many well thought out features. For instance, it has a little swing-down handle to make filming easier (always an issue with these little digicams). You can hook the camera directly to your computer through USB, no need to get a card reader. Pop-up flash is nice for doing indoor shots. Easy to use menus. Fairly high resolution stills for a digital camcorder. I love the Sony batteries that tell you how much time you have left...same for the tapes and memory cards. Plenty of features that a camera at this level should have.

Now, for the negatives. No progressive scan. Let me say that again. NO PROGRESSIVE SCAN!! Heaven knows why Sony continues to leave this feature off. It was so noticeable between this camera and the TRV900 which does have progressive scan, when you capture stills off of video. The ones from this camera are nowhere near as good. Not even close. If the subject is moving at all (which is usually the whole point of trying to capture a still from video), without progressive scan it is just not as clear, sharp, colorful, etc. Why Sony does not put progressive scan on their cameras is beyond me. Most of the other gripes I have with this camera are fairly minimal. Some of the buttons are fairly hard to locate, the zoom is hard to use and rather touchy, the photo button is right next to it so I often hit the wrong one, etc. Fairly typical problems for a camera of this size. Were it not for progressive scan being missing though, this would definitely be a 5-star camcorder. Without it, sorry Sony. You blew it again.

I have had my DMC-FZ60 for about three weeks now. I am a Panasonic user, and have bought many of their pocket cameras for the family. I also own a Cannon T50 SLR with three lens, some Sony's and others. I previously owned the Panasonic FZ8, prior to getting the FZ60, which is a major upgrade in my kit. The FZ8 has taken thousands of great pictures, and is now in the hands of my college nephew, being put to good use in the field.

I have taken several sets of picture themes, Sports (football, motorcycle racing), indoor, video outdoors, scenery and sun sets. Of the 300 plus pictures taken only four were blow due to poor focus or exposure. I believe one was my fault, being to quick with a pan shot.

The football shots were shot in good light during the day. Exploiting the massive reach of 600 mm lens to the wide angle of the 25 mm lens created some stunning shots. I captured burst shots from 70 yards with great clarity, also capturing a panorama of the entire field from the bleachers at mid field that was stunning and perfectly stitched together. The 16 MP MOS sensor is a huge improvement over the 7mp I had before. Only issue noted was the limited number of shots in burst mode.

Motorcycles, at 120 MPH captured in video and stills both panning, and burst mode. From the timing stand, taking video the auto wind cut filter removed all the ambient wind noise, leaving the throaty rasp of the Suzuki's and Ducati's. Manual panning was good, and I think will improve as I get more comfortable with the camera. I find the dedicated video button a welcome addition. Only once did I hit the focus button as opposed to the video button, again muscle memory will take care of this.

Indoor, what can I say, no red eye when using the program mode, or any other. iA is also nice and in certain situations handy when people are moving about between different light sources. Flash is very effective, much more range than my old FZ8

Outdoor scenery looks like it will be fun. With the creative mode you can easily flip to different effects.

Long tele shots are superb, the only drawback here is the the slow auto focus at these insane distances. Manual will come in handy here.

I find using the menus OK, I have used them for years and they seem natural to me. AE/AF/Lock is the only button I have not come close to mastering yet.

I considered the FZ-200 but with the difference in price it was hard to justify for my amateur needs. I have not missed RAW for my portrait pictures, the JPEG images from the FZ60 are excellent. I usually only adjusted lighting/contrast and sharpness anyway, and the FZ60 is doing a fine job with white balance set to auto.

I am very please with this camera and have recommend it to several friends.

If you are skeptical about buying from this company, don't be! The item was shipped and received within two days of ordering. After I received the phone I called the phone number on the invoice and was immediately connected to a live person! Unheard of today, right? She was most courteous and helpful. Although the phone was a little dirty (I was told that's the way it came from the distributor), with a little alcohol and cotton swab it now looks brand new!

Do not think twice about ordering from here! TEN stars!

The short version:

Pros:

The optical quality is great, the speed is terrific, and it compares well to the 70-200mm lens that people like to say blows this out of the water (I believe they are wrong but we will get into that later) and finally, the price cannot be beaten. Buy it.

Cons:

No hood, extends as it zooms, and the quality of the picture in low light situation lessens a little.

The long version:

I am writing this in simple terms. I found several, several reviews on this lens but they were all in technical terms and leaves you scratching your head a little. So, if you are like me maybe this review will help you.

I bought this lens a couple months ago from US1Photo.com (check these guys out. They regularly have significant sales and terrific customer service). I use this lens with a Canon 40D.

I take several types and styles of pictures so I needed a lens that would do the best job at several things and have a very affordable price (right at or less than $1,000). I looked through new, used, third party (Tamron, Sigma, etc) lenses, and read too many reviews and looked at too many images to count, and spent four hours in a photography store playing with lenses before I decided to spend money and take advantage of this lens. All in all I spent about a week's worth of time in research and testing before I bought this lens.

Edit:

Okay, so amazon won't let me put a link here. This is how you find me.

~Then type in a "/" then "photos" then "/" and last type in "gman_five0"

And that should take you there.

Test of comment #1:

~The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM does not track moving objects very well and the farther to the end of the zoom the slower the tracking.

(Flickr Gallery page 2)

This, I have found, to be completely wrong. I have used the lens at several sporting events and found that it tracks rather nicely. I was able to track every step of a base-runner from first base to second, slide, and recovery after the play without losing ONE shot.

To see what I am talking about check out my gallery on Flickr. The older ones are NOT done with this lens or camera and taken, actually, several years ago. I will reference the pictures in question.

Safe, Got There By a Mile, Breaking Up That Double Play (please note that as time goes on from the date that this was posted the pictures may have been re-moved). Also, "Safe" was used instead of another shot taken at the same time and angle with a 70-200mm IS lens.

To take these shots I used "AI focus" and the "H" settings on my camera for quicker tracking and the H settings for about 6 frames per second.

Test of Comment #2:

~The 200-300mm range is nice in theory, but a tack-sharp photo from the 70-200mm f/4L at 200mm is going to look better cropped than a 300mm full-frame photo from this lens.

Again, I found this to be wrong. Though I have no actual "full sized" picture for this if you comment back with an email address then we can arrange a viewing of one. Otherwise, take my word for it, I own several lenses and this one stacks up well.

(Ref Flickr Gallery)

The pictures from the Dance Theater and Tashina were all taken at the 200-300mm focus lengths. Again, they are not full sized because of photo pirates, but if you email me we can see about full sized shots.

Test of Comment #3:

~The IS motor is loud

I do not know what these people are talking about, but if you call that loud...

On the other hand, I have heard (once), the sound of the IS motor, but if you are not listening for it you will not even notice it.

Things I have found about the lens:

If you spend some time with the lens will be one of your best friends. It is a great lens especially for people on a budget (like me). To take the best pictures you cannot just twist it on and go to shooting. Take the time to LEARN about the lens (change shutter speeds, ISO settings, aperture, white balances, etc) and it will show you where it shines just like the L series lenses and the 70-200mm IS.

This lens has a solid make and feels like it will last forever. Then again, as you zoom the lens does extend and is plastic. So, watch out if you are doing sports. You may get it knocked off. It did well for me, though. Extending while zooming makes putting a hood on the lens a bit (very little; so little that you cannot tell) awkward and it looks kinda goofy.

I like the lens because it is not as bulky as the 70-200mm lens and it is extremely mobile. It is as quick as some other lenses, not as quick as some, and quicker than others. It will give you great quality pictures. It does have its limits, however: in low light situations not being able to take it back a couple stops and get a wider aperture will not give you the same shot as a 70-200mm. Then again, like I said, it doesn't drop to that f/2.8 and does not cost all that money. This has been the single drawback for me about the lens.

I use this lens for portraits (Tashina, Samantha), for sports (see gallery), and music (Shawn Pander See Gallery). So, it's pretty versatile. I have yet to use with it flash, but that is because I simply do not like to use flash. I have yet to use it in a studio setting, but when I do I will amend this review and add a couple of those pictures as well.

This lens comes highly recommended from me. I am not a big time, highly paid, or well known photographer. I just like to shoot and like what I shoot to be of the best quality that I can have AND afford at the time. So, if you are like me and cannot spend the needed $1,500 $1,700 on a 70-200mm IS lens then spend your money on this lens. You will not be sorry for it.

---

On another note, comments are welcome. This is my first ever review on here so let me know if there anything else that you would like to know about and I will do my best to answer the question in the most plain terms as possible.

The Canon 24-70/2.8 has been my primary lens for the past two years. It has served me well and was hands down my favorite lens for this focal length, until I tried the 24/1.4 II from Canon. This lens has very fast and accurate focus, and the images are incredibly sharp, even wide-open. I've decided that I can live without the 25-70mm focal length of the 24-70 for this lens.

The minimum focus is 0.8ft, which allows you to get incredibly close to your subject, and the 24mm gives you a very wide view to capture your entire subject.

The 1.4 aperture is incredibly fast. Combine that with fast focus and incredible sharpness and you now have a lens you can use indoors without flash (Note: 1.4 aperture comes with a thin depth-of-field. Focusing on the eye will leave you with a blurry nose and forehead, very smooth bokeh).

I've used the following Canon lenses and this one tops the list and is now on my 5D II 70% of the time (have to leave time for the 70-200).

Canon 16-35/2.8 II: Fantastic lens if this is the focal length you're looking for. This lens has the fish-eye effect at 16mm with full-frame sensors

Canon 50/1.4: Great focal length and speed, but overdue for a refresh. This is a great lens if you're looking for the soft feel of photos.

Canon 85/1.2: Excellent lens, if your subject isn't moving. Very slow focus combined with very narrow depth of field equals out-of-focus photo.

Canon 135/2: Very sharp. Perhaps one of the sharpest lenses Canon makes. The 24/1.4 II is as good if not better.

Canon 70-200/2.8 IS: Hands down the best lens in this focal length (ok, you could argue the 135/2 is better if that's the length you're looking for).

Canon 300/4 IS: Very sharp lens with quick and accurate focus. It's also about 25% of the price of the 300/2.8 IS.

If this is the focal length you're looking for, this lens will prove to be an incredible choice. This lens is not on the cheap end, with respect to price. But I feel the 24/1.4 II is worth every penny. If you're on the edge of purchasing the lens, rent it and you'll be back here hitting the "Add to Shopping Cart" button.
