I am neither a techy or a pixel peeper. I have owned Canon and Nikon DSLRs with a a variety of zooms including kit zooms, Tamron 17-50 2.8, Sigma 18-50 2.8 and the Nikon 17-50 2.8. My original plan was to buy the XE1 with the kit and then accumulate the primes. Frankly, other then the 35mm 1.4, I see no reason to buy any of the other current Fuji primes on the market (that does not mean I would not consider future primes, especially any pancakes). I do want the 35mm for it's well reviewed sharpness, bokeh and speed for low light.
As far as I am concerned, the Fuji 18-55 is second to none. It is sharp with great color and contrast. It has decent bokeh (especially at 2.8 which of course is not constant). It is a fantastic walk around lens with the ability of capturing pro level images.
I am also waiting to see Fuji's WA zoom which should be released in 2013.
Do not hesitate to buy the XE1 in combination with this lens. considering the body is a $1000.00, the lens for an additional $400 is a real bargain.
