Having had this scope for a few months now I have to report that it's really a great scope. I'm a 3D artist and I use it to examine dental brackets that orthodontists use when you get braces. The individual brackets that are bonded to each tooth are really tiny and to be able to model them in 3D I need to be able to examine the small details. I'll use the video camera to have a magnified view on one of my monitors and I'll use that for reference as I model the 3D model I'm building of it. It works really well and saves me a lot of time.

It's sharp and the adjustable ring light is really nice. I've made a paper cone that I place over my stage that is about 3" tall. It extends up towards the ring light and gives me some side lighting as the top ring light bounces off of it. It's a photo studio trick that even works on a miniature scale. The camera is handy but just OK. The resolution is fine for documenting but it's not sharp enough to really analyze fine details. You are better off examining those fine important details by eye on the eyepieces.

My only complaint is that there is a knob on the back that allows you to raise the entire scope and focusing system up and down on the vertical chrome rod. It's just a set screw. If you don't support the entire unit, and it's heavy, it will crash down. And, there's not really good place to grab and hold the whole rig because you don't want to be grabbing the light or the lower lenses. It would be nice if that rear lock and adjustment mechanism was geared. It would make it much easier to operate. If find that most of what I view is the same size so I'm not having to make that adjustment often but when I do I realize how it could be made so much easier if it had gears and not just friction and gravity.

Overall, from a non-scientific industry use, it's a fantastic scope and for the price I doubt you could beat it for even twice the cost. Not saying that it would not be good for the scientific, medical or biological industries as it might be perfect. I'm just not qualified to make that judgement as there may be parameters necessary in those industries that I'm not aware of.
