I'll write a longer review when I have time.

The Swann DVR I had just died after almost 2 years. And I'm so happy it did (read my review on the Swann DVR)

I have had this DVR about a month now and I'm blown away by how much better it is.

I have not set up the internet access yet, so I'll update my review when I do that. But in every other way this DVR is better than the Swann.

I was very surprised to to see the picture was sharper than the Swann on my monitor. Which seemed strange since it has the same cameras.

The playback sharpness is MUCH SHARPER on this DVR. This is because the compression method used must me MUCH BETTER. The live feed and the playback look the same actually, you can't even tell it's a recording. Even on the the Swann's highest setting the playback looked like garbage.

This DVR comes with a mouse! So using the system is much like using a computer. You have cursor on the screen icons, which is really, great.

the remote on this one actually works. On the Swann you had to hold the remote about a foot away from the DVR. And even then you might be fast forwarding a 2x speed, hit pause and have the speed go to 3x, hit stop and the speed would go up to 4x.... really the the Swann was a piece of garbage.

The search is MUCH better on the Defender. You can check only 1 camera at a time, instead of having to review every single camera.

The record options are MUCH MUCH better. For EACH camera you can set it to record all the time, motion, or not at all. On the Swann, you have not choice how you set 1 is how they are all set. On the Defender, you can set them each individually.

The motion detector actually WORKS on the Defender. I think it has some kind of pre roll. When you playback sometimes there will be no movement for a second (and you might think the motion detector was set off by mistake), then someone will suddenly enter the frame so as I said, it must have some kind of pre-roll function built in. On the Swann, sometimes you would only see someone just after they were leaving the frame, you would see a shoulder, but no way to identify the person, even though they had walked down the hall 15 feet straight towards the camera!

The Defenders Motion detector goes off ONLY WHEN THERE IS MOTION! On the Swann I had to constantly tweak the brightness and contrast to keep the motion detector from going off every 10 seconds sometimes. (Literally, not set right the motion would go off every 10 seconds in a hall with no windows. Then the florescent bulb in the hall would go out and be replaced, I would have to set it up all over again.)

The Defender still records while you are in playback mode! The Swann stops recording in playback mode :(

I really could go on, but don't have the time at the moment, after I set up the remote network access I will finish the review.

UPDATE:

May 8,2011

I forgot until now to finish the review!

When I originally set up the network access (remotely from my laptop) There was a slight error but I called the tech support who helped me put the "something" outside the "something range" (I forgot exactly what we did) and since then it has worded flawlessly. I just checked it after not using it for months and I'm still connected! I have not set up use on my iphone yet because I'm still running OS3 and have not updated to OS4. I've been too lazy to clear all my photos and videos off my phone. So I'm not sure how the iphone app works....

This is a great machine. I just learned that I can set it to show all 8 cameras but when there is motion in one camera it will fill the screen on that camera for 10 seconds (or longer if you want to set it that way). This is a nice setting because after a while you don't notice movement in the tiny frames. But when suddenly you have 9 squares (only 8 cameras) and the screen jumps to full screen mode you notice that, so you notice the movement in the frame. Great for when a delivery person comes to the door and you have headphones on.

UPDATE

Feb 2013

The product still works great but Defender no longer seems to have phone support. The live chat is what live chat always is.... you sitting there waiting for someone to respond when they do eventually respond it's pretty clear they have forgotten your particular problem since they are chatting with many people at the same time. It took me 45 min to get a very, very simple problem resolved. I can't recommend their customer service anymore and am knocking off 1 star I almost want to knock off 2 but I have had a good experience with this product until today. I hope the company wises up.

I do now have an iphone OS that allows use of the system. But you can only monitor not playback.

First off, if you want an extensive review of this camera go to cnet or dpreview. That's where I went to do my research when I decided to buy an dSLR. Upon doing my research I decided on a mirrorless interchangeable lens system camera. I always purchased Canon cameras, but they're kind of late to this party since they're just now releasing their first mirrorless camera. I narrowed my decision down to the NX210 versus the Sony NEX-5r that is coming out in October. I believe these models stand out because of their Wi-Fi connection and ability to use your cell phone as a remote viewfinder. Ultimately I chose the Samsung because I was able to get a free 50 200 mm lens making it several hundred dollars cheaper than the Sony.

I've had the camera for about a week now and have been satisfied with the image quality, flash coverage, manual options/controls, etc. The panoramic function is excellent and I believe that I will use it a fair amount in the future. The worst part of the camera was the Wi-Fi connection... It continually disconnected hampering the ability to use my smartphone as a viewfinder, and transferring pictures to my smartphone or computer. It just didn't work! I was contemplating returning the camera but today I went on Samsung's website and they just released firmware update 1.10 yesterday. I downloaded and installed the firmware and the Wi-Fi now functions flawlessly! IF YOU PURCHASE THIS CAMERA MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FIRMWARE 1.10 OR HIGHER. IF NOT, INSTALL IT! With the new firmware, this is a 4.5 star camera. The focusing system is not perfect and gets worse in lower light conditions. It's much better than on my previous camera (Canon SX 20), and it's probably one of the best focusing systems out there. If I had it to do over again I would've chosen this camera and I would have no problems recommending it to family and friends.

UPDATE...

Samsung has released firmware 01.11 and Wi-Fi connections are even more stable. Samsung also eliminated a bug that would lock up the camera until the battery was removed. Kudos to manufactures that continue to improve and tweak their products, even after you've surrendered your money to them. I'm still thrilled with the picture quality and features this camera offers. Focusing continues to be average but acceptable; maybe a future firmware upgrade will improve the accuracy and speed of the system. I've convinced a few friends to consider an EVIL (electronic viewfinder interchangeable lens) camera such as the NX210 instead of a dSLR for their next upgrade.

I say relatively because ink cartridges are always overpriced. Having said that, this is the cheapest way to get ink for your Canon printer. First, the XL cartriges are the cheapest per mL of ink. Second, it's actually slightly cheaper to buy them both in this bundle, and the paper is essentially thrown in for free. So, unless you only need one cartridge or the other, this is a no-brainer.

Let me start by saying that this cam makes great, clear video. It lasts beyond the rated 2hrs. using rechargeable batts. An 8gb card gives about 1:50 of record time, @ 2gb per 30 mins. A 16gb card would let you max out the batt. life.

I gave it 4 stars for a few small(sort of) issues. The mounting systems have limited adjustment, and very limited instructions. The H.bar mount sits very high, and has no provision for screw tightening, you pull it tight like a tie-wrap. The helmet and goggle strap mounts require bending a plastic tab, and pulling the base completely out of the mount to adjust the vert. angle, something near impossible to do if you're already wearing it. You need eyes on to do it right, and not break it. The stick-on helmet mount has no side to side adjustment, so you better get it pointed right on the first try. It also has very limited tilt range, so it almost has to be where the goggle strap goes anyway. There's no provision for top mounting, only side.

The cam itself works great, with caveats. If any air will move near the cam, the mic hole MUST be taped over, otherwise a horrible screeching will be heard. The problem with this is that the batt. cover includes one side of the mic hole, requiring replacing the tape each time. Sound level is still fine with mic taped, this thing hears EVERYTHING! One last thing; when mounted from the bottom, on the bike helmet mount, it's near impossible to remove batt. cover without loosening the cam first. And I think it would benefit from a small sun shade, a bright sky can make the trails go almost black. I haven't tried adding one yet, so I can't be sure it will work.

I highly recommend this cam, but you'll need to tweak things a bit depending what you use it for.

Also, I bought the Transend class 6 micro sd card with reader and it works great.

I bought the Kingston class 4 first, and it was either defective or fake, it did all kinds of crazy stuff, like making 30 files that were 10 secs. long during one ride. Also, pull the card out and use a reader. Downloading from the cam directly is frustratingly slow.

One last thing(really). This cam will start a new file every 30 mins., so it's best if you cycle it off and on yourself before this, or you will lose a random 10-15 seconds while cam resets.

this camera is for you. This camera does have some great features, some of which I have not even had time to use yet. The main draw, however, (other than the size) is that it is simple and easy to use. There are tons of point and shoot cameras out there, and there is no use being snobby over which one you buy, because they all do pretty much the same thing. This one is great for the price. You could get a nicer camera, but for 90% of the people in the market for a digital camera, this will do what you need and want it to, and more.

I use mine mainly for snapshots and spontaneous pictures with friends and the like. However, I do enjoy photography, and I have experience with SLR cameras as well (and I own one). Therefore, I also sometimes take artistic shots. This camera does it all unless you are a professional photographer, in which case, you already know you need a different camera.

The size is perfect. This will even fit in small pockets on skinny jeans or whatever. The case I bought with the camera adds some bulk, but the camera is so slim, even the case fits in my pockets comfortably.

I use Amazon Student Prime, so shipping is never a hassle. I can't really comment on other shipping speeds. The package was simple, but the camera box protects the camera with styrofoam and cardboard, and the shipping box used inflated plastic bags to keep the camera box safe. Someone would really have to try to damage the camera to manage it.

Amazon lists plenty of features of this camera, but here is my list:

RECHARGEABLE!

Records HD movies with one button

Big LCD screen on back to help compose pictures in a size you can actually see

19 scenes to choose from to assist in getting a better picture

Pet Focus will find your pet's face and once focused, will shoot the picture

There are several cool filters like selective coloring, a miniature effect and a fisheye effect

Is tiny and lightweight

Comes in cool colors

This camera will even warn you if it thinks someone blinked.

Bottom line: This camera is what you want. I search for weeks or longer before deciding to buy something, and I chose this camera. For a point and shoot, it has everything you need, and so many things you didn't even know you wanted. Unless you don't actually know what you're looking for, you won't regret buying this camera.

This was a better system when compared to the all in one system offered by zmodo. Two video outputs are great. Cameras were of better quality than expected and better than the cameras in the all in one package. Camera build was solid as well. System has been running for about two months now and no problems yet. Camera cables were thin and most likely nkt suitable for business ( i had no choice but to install them). All in all I would recommend this product.

Shortly after I bought this camera, (Sony AX-2000) I bagan to have trouble with it. As I was recording, it would just suddenly stop, and go dead. I would have to turn the camera off, turn it back on, and then go through a recovery routine to recover what I had recorded...... what a HUGE pain!

This problem got progressively worse, doing it more and more often, until I finally decided I couldn't stand it any more. I called Sony (getting to a human being was VERY difficult), and the lady gave me instructions to send the camera to Precision Camera in Connecticut, as they handle Sony's warranty issues. She told me they would either repair the camera, or send me a new one.

I paid $63 to ship the camera to their warranty center, and they finally checked it into their system 6 days after it arrived there. Precision Camera has a web page where you can monitor the progress of your camera, and after about 5 more days, there was a message there that said "Waiting on Entitlement". I called to check on it, and discovered that I had to pay the labor charge for them to check the camera out. I then discovered that Sony's warranty on labor was only 90 days, and I had sent the camera at about 100 days after I bought it. (Only 90 days!!!! Shame on me for not reading Sony's warranty policy more closely). I gave them my credit card for $150 labor.

About a week later, the Precision Camera web site message changed over to "Ordered Parts". I called to learn that they had to order the replacement parts from Sony, and Sony had backordered them.

At this point, I was fed up with the entire process, so I called Sony back and requested that they send me a new camera. Over several days of trying to talk with someone at Sony that would help me, I got bounced around to people in the Dominican Republic, and the Phillipines. I could never connect with anyone in the U.S. The last person I talked to (located in the Phillipines) instructed me to contact Precision Camera, have them send the camera back to me, and then resend the camera to the Sony repair center in Laredo, Texas so they can check the camera out (and of course I get to pay the shipping on all this). At this point I just gave up. Precision Camera still has my camera, I paid $63 to get it to them and $150 to authorize their labor charge, and I have no idea when I will get it back. I have had to just forget my plans for videoing our Christmas celebration this year.

I will NEVER buy another Sony product as long as I live!!

If you are seriously consider purchasing this tv, please read this review completely. This is a bit critical in nature, but I hope to provide a balanced review based on my experience with this unit. Depending on what you are looking for, this set may or may not work out well for you.

Just for background context, I mainly watch HD content hooked up via hdmi on my PS3. This includes bluray movies, hd content and some gaming. Regular tv and sd viewing were not as much of a concern to me. I own a 3 year old 26 inch sony lcd, and have also more recently owned a vizio 42 inch xvt, and samsung's latest 40 inch b550, which is the non 120 or 240hz model of their current lineup, and most recently the 50 inch Panasonic G10, which I purchased after returning this B750 that I am reviewing. I may refer to some of these in the review.

As you will read there are a few major issues I found that made me return. If you feel these wont be a problem for you, this model should work great for you. After all if you are going to pay a little under $1,700 for a tv, one should be completely satisfied with it.

Design

This tv looks beautiful, understated, elegant and simple. It has a very slight touch of gray at the bottom that you can barely notice, and it should complement pretty much any decor in your home. The unit is quite thin at around 3 inches, and I was able to lift and set up the tv myself. Cheaply made screws, almost as bad as ikea used to setup the stand were a bit of a pain to put in and remove when I decided to return the unit. After a correct assembly, the tv still sort of wobbles around and generally doesn't feel like it is solid on the stand, though it shouldn't pose any problems. I noticed the same thing on the Samsung B550 by the way. The swivel design works smoothly and easily, and though I didn't use it at all, I could see how it would come in handy.

Picture Quality and Viewing Experience

The picture quality in general on this unit is gorgeous. Nicely saturated colors and comfortably deep blacks for an lcd. I tested several blurays and they all looked excellent. You will definitely need to dial back the setting to get a more realistic picture, as much of the regular setting have over-cranked saturation, brightness and contrast to impress in stores like best buy. Overall, I can say even the most discerning movie goers and enthusiasts will find it hard to really put down the picture quality itself, though there are definitely better sets out there for the money. The picture was definitely an improvement over the cheaper Samsung B550, but wasn't drastically better. i think much of the sense of better picture over the b550 was the glossy screen and better motion processing. It supposedly has a better/newer panel (10-bit vs 8-bit) over the b550 and other cheaper model lcd's. I guess the difference between very good and very very good is a subtle one.

You are given a bevy of picture tweaking options to adjust the picture to your particular room and your eyes. If you are like me, you will fiddle at least a little bit with these, and will switch between settings depending on what you are watching.

The 240hz processing to my eye, and many other reviewers will not provide any visible difference from 120hz. But the manner in which it is implemented is really nice. You can adjust judder and blur separately to get the picture to the way you like it. I felt this worked well, and really helped in the overalls smoothness and motion intense scenes. I had blur at 10 and judder between 3 and 6 depending on what I was watching.

However, this was all marred by a few issues, the worst of which was auto dimming. I had read about this on the led side lit samsungs 6 & 7000 series (which you can also find at your local best buy and amazon as well), but did not know this was included with the b750. Gizmodo did a feature on this for the b7000 with the phrase "avoid!" in the title. Basically, anytime the scene gets dark, the tv will sense that and automatically drop or dim the backlight dramatically to get deeper blacks. The problem is that is happens usually a split second after the scene has already started and it is extremely distracting. It also darkens many bright spots in the picture somewhat, like city lights over a dark sky, or stars in a dark sky. This is very noticeable for example on the Dark Knight bluray. The more I watched, the more annoying it got. The fact that the lcd already does a good job of getting very black without the dimming is what makes it really unnecessary. It also does this while flipping channels on tv, and pretty much anything you watch. There is no way for the consumer to switch this off, as far as I know. I tried everything in the menu, from dynamic contrast to eco mode etc. There might be a more techie way, but I am pretty well versed in tech, and was not able to turn off this distracting feature. It is possible the autodimming wont bother you, but if it sounds like it might, please take note. This was a bit hard to swallow for me, because almost none of the reviews mentioned this on the b750, including cnet. This also may be solved by a future firmware update from samsung, but don't hold your breath for it. (UPDATE: Apparently this can be fixed from the service menu. However the average consumer should understand that this could potentially void your warranty and mess up your tv. If you are confident though, search some forums online and try to fix this yourself.)

The next issue was what appeared to be slight "clouding" or patches of grey-whitish color on the panel. I didn't notice at first, but once a few black screens or dark scenes came on, it was both noticeable and distracting. This could be just my specific unit, or a defect. I had read that the b750 was very good in this respect and had a uniform screen, but the whitish patches became very noticeable, and in dark scenes, it looks like there were subtle hints of cloudy patches on top of the screen. I have read that this is a common issue with many lcd's, so it depends on what you end up with. But you do run the risk of this problem with the b750 or maybe any lcd. Still, my old sony, and the samsung b550 never had this problem, so it was a little disappointing.

Another issue was a thin flickering white/silver line that would flicker on top of the screen right under the bezel during many dark scenes. It was not too noticeable, but enough to become a slight nuisance. This was really obvious on dark knight, and also the Planet Earth bluray during the immersive underwater scenes.

I know the issues of glare on lcd's has been addressed ad nauseam, but I just thought I should chime in. The screen is pitch black and VERY reflective, to the point of acting like a mirror. I have a room that gets ambient, not direct, sunlight and it was quite distracting during the day. It is rather difficult to see, so you need to crank up the brightness, which helps a bit. The display definitely gets as bright as you need. In the evening, with very dim lighting, it is still possible to see yourself reflected in the tv when it goes black in between scenes. The Samsung B550 (a cheaper tv), has a sort of matte-glossy hybrid display that I thought worked much better when compared to this one. But, the glossy display is partly responsible for the richer color and deeper blacks you get on this unit. Always tradeoffs. If you are ok with glossy screens on tv's, you will be ok with this one too. P.S. best buy is not a good place to figure out if you are ok with glossy screens. They don't look the same at home.

Off angle viewing on this unit is just not very good. The moment you move even a little bit away from the sweet spot of the couch right in the center, the blacks start to wash out, and the whole picture starts to look different. Not necessarily terrible, but different. The cheaper B550 had much more consistent viewing angle experience for some reason, I'm not sure why. Basically, if you have 3 or 4 people over for a movie, some will probably be seeing a slightly different picture.

Gaming

Reading several reviews of the b750, some said gaming was too laggy (ie: when you press a button it doesn't register right away) on the it, some said it was fine, so I had to give it a shot. I felt it was far too much lag to play games well. In other words, you will die or miss more often. You wont know why, you just will. The lag is on a millisecond level, but much of the twitch response in gaming is that way. Your eyes wont really notice that it is lagging, but it is definitely there, and significantly I might add. The "Game" mode does a little to remedy this, but it is still not perfect and the picture a bit harsh in game mode, since you can't adjust any picture settings. If you are a very casual gamer and are playing games that don't really require good timing, then the lag wont really bother you. For me, I can't really recommend it for gaming. For reference, I was playing games like Resistance 2, Little big planet, Street Fighter 2 hd remix, guitar hero etc for testing. The lag is much better, almost nonexistent on the Panasonic G10, which is a plasma. For lcd, I believe the Samsung B750 gives average or maybe below average performance. Strangely, the Samsung B550 for comparison was a little better in my experience and so was my old sony lcd.

User Experience, Menus and extra features

Going with the theme of lag, I have to say Samsung's menus are extremely slow to respond and laggy. They look ok I suppose, with a blue graphical touch. All menu navigation has extra animations and movements that make them less responsive (reminds me of a Samsung cell phone I used to own). Compared to other tv's I have used, Samsung menus tend to cover more of the screen, which I feel is also a bit of a minus when you are making adjustments based on what you are watching.

If you are the type to change picture modes often (like movie, vivid, standard etc) depending on what you are watching, you may be a tad annoyed to learn that Samsung removed the picture mode toggle button from the remote, which they have on the cheaper b550, so you have to dig into a submenu just to change the picture mode. The remote is pretty easy to use, but I feel it is not naturally intuitive compared to some other brands, but this may just be personal preference. For example, the context of the tools and menu button seem to change and give you different options depending on what you are doing, and not necessarily in a logical manner.

The picture mode button was replaced with a "content" button that takes you to Samsung's "content" if you can call it that, in one press. Samsung's content, is really inane and pretty useless. It's actually kind of funny. It has recipes, nature sounds, and some random children's songs. They are all very slow to load and extremely average to poor in quality. You might take a look at it once or twice just to see what it is, but I wouldn't imagine that anyone would use the features frequently.

The internet widgets by Yahoo! widgets I would say are pretty close to unusable. I don't factor this much into the review or my decision to return the unit, because I didn't buy the tv for these features. I used to use Yahoo widgets some years ago on a windows computer, and the were pretty good, so I think it is just a poor implementation. In keeping with the menus, the widgets are extremely slow and unresponsive and feels like a very slow computer using a dial up connection, when you are actually using an expensive new piece of equipment with a broadband connection. For the record you get weather, stocks, flickr etc. No youtube, but it may come soon. For comparison, the Panasonic G10 has a few internet features that are very responsive and easy to use like youtube, weather, stocks, and picasa. All of this could also be improved with a firmware update from samsung.

Content can be played on the tv via plugging in a hard drive or usb stick to the usb port on the side of the tv. This feature was my favorite and has been implemented extremely well. It plays nearly any filetype, including the commonly used but rarely supported mkv format. The picture quality is good, very smooth and best of all it supports subtitles! The subtitle has really nice looking text and you can adjust the size and the sync time of the subtitles. This usb feature really surpassed my expectations and it was really tough to let this one go when I returned the unit. People who download alot of video, especially mkv could potentially buy the B750 just for this feature, its that good. Of course all the picture issues I mentioned before still stand though.

I did not try the dlna networking features, because they didn't support mac out of the box, and I didn't have a real interest to try it at the time.

Overall, I would say many things about this tv live up to the positive reviews. Beautiful picture quality and design really shine. But unfortunately I just couldn't live with the the issues that I noticed

extremely distracting auto dimming feature that can't be turned off in the unit i received (trust me, i tried every option in the menus!)

whitish, cloudy patches that are apparent during dark scenes

significant gaming lag making most action-oriented games difficult to play

These three were my main issues for returning the unit, the many other things I highlighted just added to my decision though they were not deal breakers (or deal makers for that matter). I feel that if you can live with the issues I highlight you will really like the tv as the picture quality really is excellent. As a side note, I jumped into the plasma world with the Panasonic G10. While it's not perfect, I feel it worked out much better for me than this particular Samsung and am very happy with it. If you are in the market of this tv, I highly recommend checking out everything that is out there.

Amazon was easy to deal with. The unit arrived on Friday after ordering it Monday morning via Pilot shipping. The Pilot folks did not help me setup the tv as other reviews mentioned. They were in a real hurry to leave the moment they dropped off the tv, but no big deal for me -could be for folks that need more help. When we decided to return, Amazon was cooperative and helped us with the procedure and is already processing the refund. Someone is supposed to come pick up the tv in a day or two. This was my first time ordering such a high ticket item from Amazon, and though it didn't work out for me this time, I think it is pretty safe to do so.

I gave it 3 stars because the actual picture quality was very good some of the issues could potentially be fixed with a firmware update.

Good luck! I hope this helps you make a decision on this tv. If I had read a review like this, it might have saved me some time. But ultimately you have to see for yourself.

I've owned the 24-70mm for almost a year now. This lens has been a favorite of many since it replaced its well-regarded predecessor, the 28-70mm. It shoots images that are very sharp and have excellent contrast and saturation. It's sharp wide open and only gets better when stopping down. The USM (Ultrasonic Motor) focuses very fast, and full-time manual focusing is allowed. I've thought about buying a 50mm f/1.4, but the results from this lens are so good, I'm having a hard time justifying the purchase. I've been nothing but pleased with the pictures I get from the 24-70mm. The constant f/2.8 aperture is great for shooting indoors and produces a very nice bokeh (background blur) when shooting portraits. This lens is much heavier than comparable consumer-grade zooms, but I don't object to the weight. I actually like the heft and feel of this lens on my 20D. The only feature I wish it had is IS (image stabilization).

The one thing preventing an unqualified recommendation is the recent release of the Canon 24-105mm f/4.0L IS. The latter lens costs about the same and has some noteworthy advantages. It is .7" shorter, .2mm narrower and .6 lbs. lighter. It has 3rd generation IS that gives you a 3-stop shutter speed advantage when shooting handheld. I know from my 70-200mm f/2.8L IS that image stabilization is a very welcome feature when shooting handheld at slow shutter speeds. And, obviously, the 24-105mm adds an extra 35mm of focal length on the long end.

The 24-70mm bests the 24-105mm in one way: It's a faster lens. That translates into the following advantages: At f/4.0, the 24-105mm cannot stop subject motion blur as well in low-light situations where the 24-70mm's f/2.8 can give you a shutter speed that is twice as fast. Note that IS does not have any impact at all on subject motion blur, only on camera shake on your end. If bokeh (background blur) is important to you, the 24-70mm will have a slight advantage over the 24-105mm given its wider aperture. A wider aperture also helps a camera focus a little better in low light.

The first run of the 24-105mm had a flare problem (see Canon's Web site for more info), and the early production models have been recalled. But the problem has now been fixed. You'll have to consider your photography priorities when deciding which of these two excellent lenses best suits your needs. You would be well served by either.

Update 2-12-12: It's been over six years since I wrote this review, and I continue to use and enjoy my 24-70mm, which is now paired with a Canon 7D. Anyone considering buying this lens today, however, should know that Canon announced on 2-7-12 the successor to this lens: The 24-70mm f/2.8L II. Contrary to rumors that had been circulating for years, the mark II version does not add image stabilization. Canon's USA website lists the MSRP for the new lens at $2,299.00.

Great for stuffing camera, lens, computer, and anything else you might need for moving from point A to point B.. only reason i give it 4 stars, has nothing to do with the bag..iBut, on a smaller puddle jumper of an airplane its a little too big and wont fit in some of the smaller overhead bins and now means either checking the bag with all your important stuff.. or stuffing it under the very tiny seat in front of you.. which either means no leg room at all.... but once again.. that is no fault of the bag.. on all other planes it fits perfectly in the overhead..

Sigma 24mm f1.8

bought this thinking that I needed something wider than my 50mm f1..4 which by the way is amazing (love it!) because I have a crop frame camera I gave the 24mm a try to sort off get a "normal" lens but it doesn't have OS (Sigma's Image Stabilization) and it's hard to keep it steady to avoid a blurry shot unless using a tripod or having to waste a few shots until you get the one that "did not move" the one thing that I really find kind of annoying is the fact that in low light it hunts too much when in AF it sucks because that was the whole point of having 1.8 to be able to have an awesome shot like with my 50 ... plus I thought I was getting the 30mm but for some reason I pressed this one instead in the ordering process ;(

anyways I just got it so I will try it out and will probably update this review.

I have bought other lenses within a kit and they have included this cleaning kit which is nice to have once maybe twice but the third time ok too many now..how many back ups can you have really... but the pouch/case is handy I used it for the rapid charger and other stuff and its great to keep my small items from rolling around the camera backpack. Cleaner is fine but I really like the blower+brush it helps when it puffs and the wind is not enough to remove the tiny lint spot then the brush comes to the rescue .. good touch! like it. It would be nice if sometimes the kit would have a diffuser or softbox or something different to change it a little don't get me wrong the cleaner is handy but I already have it and it will last for a while. ;)

I do a lot of traveling and my old backpack style camera case wasn't convenient. My husband found the Lowepro ad in one of his sail magazines. Just used it for travel to FL. I LOVE it, so nice to finally be able to take EVERYTHING along.

I can not really add much to my review which has not already been said. These are great sounding speakers for the price.

If you want speakers with accurate music reproduction, thumping bass and higher volumes, best to spend more money and upgrade to Logitech's Z-4 model. But for casual listening and computer gaming, the X-140 speakers are more than adequate.

My biggest positive is the durability & construction; very hard plastic backs with heavy duty metal front grills (which are virtually impenetrable to pencils, pens, and other kid wielded objects). So far, after 4 months of use, I have deemed them "kid proof". Those of you who have small children know what I mean. I highly recommend the X-140's for those on a budget or those who just can't see the logic in dropping big dollars when kids are around. ****March 2013 update. Still in great condition and rockin' strong!****

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I waited to try all four features of this printer before reviewing it document printing, scanning, photo printing, and photocopying. Generally, this printer is a beauty, both looks-wise and operationally. There is a pop up screen with a very bright menu that also displays photos. You are supposed to be able to edit them right there, but I didn't actually try that feature of this printer. The sleek, shiny, black rounded body has very cool back-lit buttons for all the functions right on the top. You can also control them from the computer. I found myself going back and forth between both, for both everyday functionality and the set up.

I have to say a REALLY great feature about this printer, which I didn't expect to love as much as I do, is the wireless printing capability. You don't have to keep this printer anywhere near your computer, just an outlet. If you have a laptop and like to use it in front of the TV, you will absolutely love the freedom it provides.

I would rate all of the individual features rate highly except the document printing. Here's my review of the features from best to relatively worst:

1. Photo printing prints either directly from your card (no computer needed technically). You can print up to 600 dpi with this. The photos are crisp and clear, and color is accurate. The only thing I didn't like was the extremely rudimentary photo editing software. It is easy to use, yes, but it doesn't do much. If you want to retouch your photos, use either Photoshop or one of the free pieces of software. I like Picasa even. That may be simple, but it's better than this. Smaller printer paper loads from the back of the machine. Regular paper goes in a drawer in the front, which I really liked.

2. Photocopying I find it's a relief to have a photocopier for the occasional document that needs photocopying. Here you'll have a color copier too. The colors also rendered accurately here.

3. Scanning I tried a document and photos (you can scan your signature and then cut and paste it into letters, btw, which is a nice touch if you're sending out cover letters online). It did a great job on all kinds of documents, as well as my signature. Remember though that you can only print at 600 dpi with this machine, which may be a deal killer for a handful of people. The photo scanning wasn't quite up to the quality of the photo printing however. I scanned in a photo of my mom, and boosted the contrast slightly. The picture came out warmer and less detailed than the original photo. You can correct this on Photoshop, but in my opinion you shouldn't have to. Again, I was a little stymied by the fact that the photo editing software was so rudimentary but if you have different software you should be able to work this out.

4. Document printing this printer comes with two black cartridges one is much larger than the other one and is just for printing. I have a small laser printer and am spoiled by it, so that is the caveat. First, the documents print out very slowly. It takes a while to prepare itself to print, and then when it does start to print, it's pretty slow. That was actually the only thing that disappointed me about this printer. The document quality is very good, but in my opinion doesn't reach the near-laser quality that some of the HP printers do. Considering this is an all-in-one, you can't kill it for that issue. However, because of that and the slowness I wouldn't recommend this printer to anyone who regularly does things like college term papers, or other things where you print out large documents on a regular basis -the lack of speed would drive you crazy. I also liked my resume better on the laser printer, naturally. But the slowness and lack of laser-like crispness are what killed one of the stars on this rating. There was a cool thing about printing though the front door automatically pops open when the printer starts. I liked that.

I would say that this is an excellent printer for people who want really good photo printing, need scanning and photocopying capability, which are also good, but don't have large print jobs on a regular basis. The user interface and the beauty of the thing itself make it a complete pleasure to operate. Never thought I'd be saying that about a piece of electronic equipment. The ink cartridges are kind of small, so that's another consideration unless you can find a good, cheap dealer on E-bay.

Installation this is one where you have to be ready. Plug and play this is not. You have to load the printer head, the printer cartridges, and keep going back and forth between the computer and printer screen (which gives you directions) to set it up, no matter what the directions say. Give yourself an hour, because it may not go that smoothly. I actually had no problems already had a wireless router and didn't have to go through what some others have, but it was tedious and I did notice that you have to pay as much attention to what the computer is saying as what the printer is telling you to do, and found installing the printer head less straight forward that it should have been.

We have purchase over 200 of these printers (even here at Amazon)

and they are pretty good until you run out of ink.

The Ink can print you about 2-3 months worth if used every

other day or so. But our customers, including ourselves,

have had nothing but head aches when it comes to changing

Ink Cartridges. 47 Customers have complained it will NOT

ACCEPT 'GENUINE' Epson Cartridges. We owned 4 of them and

all 4 are currently wrapped up in their boxes ready to throw

out or send to a recycling center. All 4 printers

printed through 1 ink cycle then they started rejecting all

ink replacements. We bought ink here at Amazon rejected.

We tried the tech trick of pulling out the electrical cord,

and the USB cord, and it did accept 2 or 3 cartridges,

but eventually it started to reject all of them in time.

Keep in mind this printer has gotten fairy good reviews

the past year some individuals are being successful

with the printer but we suspect many reviews were

written before their 1st ink cycle went dry.

We noticed that (after installing the printers) The Epson

software started accessing the internet (or at least trying

to). This was to block any 3rd party Ink cartridges because

on one of the printers that WAS NOT on the internet it actually

acceptable 1 black ink 3rd party cartridge. The rest were

rejected even the "Genuine" Epson Cartridges.

Its difficult enough to have to purchase expensive

"Genuine" ink for these printers but to have them

rejected by your fairly new printer is appalling. We

have over 46 "genuine" ink cartridges that have been

returned to us (we no longer sell the ink). We used

some of the "rejected" ink on our Epson R260 models

and R280 model (those printers accepted the ink)

simply because the R260, R280 and this model -

"artisan" 50 use the same ink cartridge.

Customers have explained to us this printer model

has difficulty on accepting new cartridges no matter

where you purchased them. We have contacted

Epson by email, phone even writing them a letter,

but they yet to even try to return our messages.

Customers who have purchase this model, and have

not been subjected by the cartridge problem are very

fortunate and we are happy for them.

Overall, Epson has made this printer so INK

CARTRIDGE RESTRICTIVE that it has made us

impossible to recommend to anyone or even

give out for free.

While printing through its first ink cycle, it did

produce fine photos and fairly good text docs,

but after the ink was done it seems so was

the printer.

Update: We installed a CISS system on one

of the printers on Feb 1 2011: rejected.

On January 20th, the same model rejected

"Genuine ink" from a major store front. We

were fortunate to receive a refund on both

occasions. We aren't trying anymore. Epson

keeps ignoring our calls.

Fabulous camera, quite technical to use, but the automatic setting works flawlessly. One drawback is the short lifespan of the battery, but it does recharge quickly and you can use the ac cord. Another bonus is the attachment to take old negatives and scan them to digital images.

Superb quality lens, it's a joy to work with, focus is long and easy, really pleasure over any 50/58mm lens, color rendition excelent, bokeh completely creamy, 1/3overexposure in most cases and the kit fit well... Works as a G lens on nikons, but still have clicked aperture for older cameras.
