Not everyone need a fisheye. Foe me it is more a fun lens than a serious optical instrument.
When I got this little guy from Samyang, I was really surprised at how good the image quality is.
The build quality is very good , tight fit and smooth operation. Focus is a little fiddlely, but set at f5.6 infinity, it is pretty sharp all the way. Out doors , it becomes an ultra quick point and shoot, no focus lag at all. Perfect for arms out self portraits if framed correctly.
The distortion from a fisheye is expected, and can be used creatively for dramatic effects. Compared to my 7-14, it has almost as good sharpness and color rendition, but in a smaller and lighter package. The 7-14 is also quite wide but a more serious rectalinear lens and usuable under more situations and much more expensive.
Panasonic also make an 8mm fisheye at double the price ( have not tried) and My favorite is the DX Nikon 10.5 fisheye for Nikon DSlrs. This little guy on a GH2 will make fantastic GoPro style videos ( not water proof though)
The lens also come under other brand names like Bower and ProOptic. And looks more serious without the silly red stripe. Recommended......
