Recent purchase of Vanguard Skyborne 53 backpack. Am amazed at how complete the unit is and how well it sits on my back. Ease of access to all items, which I also feel are very well protected. Fully waterproof and once again I believe that TIPA got it right with their award. This will now be my primary backpack and I shall have a smaller unit for shorter trips, when I do not require as much equipment. Although I have to admit that it is extraordinary to just pick and chose lenses at random, because I have them with me and they suit the situation. It has made me a more perceptive photographer and occasionally I am trying the same shot, but with different lenses to expand the potential of my Olympus E5. Incidentally another TIPA award winner. Cannot stress how wonderful it is to have my tripod with me at all times attached to my backpack. Once again it makes for a much more satisfying photographic excursion. I live on the East Coast of Vancouver Island and the photographic opportunities are endless. Thank you Vanguard for a wonderful item.

For years we have been using a key pad activated deadbolt for front doors in our various homes no keys to lose or give to various family members only four digit codes. Up until now, all of the key pad units we have installed, extend and retract the deadbolt using a small battery powered electric motor.

This issue we've encountered is when the batteries become weak, the motor (in some cases) does not have enough power to retract the bolt and we must revert to another entrance to get into our home. Although these unit allow one to use a key to override the electronics, we never seem to have the key "on us" when it's needed. Fortunately we have a keypad on our garage door and that serves as an alternative entrance when this occurs. These deadbolt retraction failures have been occurring more and more often even with fresh batteries. I suspect the motor is or has worn out.

With this in mind, I shopped the market for an electronically activated dead bolt with manual bolt action. In other words, instead of a motor extending and retracting the deadbolt, one would use a lever or knob to perform this function. The keypad (electronic segment of the unit) would serve to activate the manual knob or lever. I found the Schlage BE365VCAM619 Camelot Deadbolt Keypad, Satin Nickel on Amazon at an extremely reasonable price and it has all of the features I wanted electronic key pad activation, manual extension and retraction of the deadbolt upon activation.

The unit arrived yesterday and after a few problems with the unit being confused as to whether the bolt was retracted or extended (my fault), the unit works perfectly. Note, I already had a deadbolt lockset on the door, so it was a simple process of removing the old, and installing the new.

It's an extremely high quality unit without the cheap plastic casing my prior unit had on the inside casing. It's all metal. Changing or adding key pad codes (combinations) is relatively easy. One must enter the units six digit master code (don't lose this code, keep it in a place that you can go to each time you wish to change the codes Using a permanent marker, I wrote it on the inside of the lock), and then enter your personal four digit code. We use two codes however the unit can store many codes. You may want to add a temporary code to let a service technician into your home, then delete that code when the work is completed.

One feature I like is the lighted key pad which our old unit did not have. If we forget to turn on the porch light, by simply pressing the "schlage" button at the top of the keypad, the keys light up.

Here's the basic operation.

When you're leaving the house, close the door, press the "schlage" button, wait for the click, then extend the deadbolt. You'll hear a confirmation click confirming that the locking knob/lever has been disengaged from the deadbolt after the deadbolt has been extended.

When you arrive home, simply enter your four digit code, you'll hear a click, then manually retract the deadbolt and enter the home. I you wish to use the keypad light; simply press the "schlage" button to light it up. Obviously this is not needed during daylight hours.

Basically the nine volt battery is operating the keypad, a knob/level engagement solenoid and the keypad back light and should last for hundreds and hundreds cycles.

Bottom Line I highly recommend this high quality unit.

Look, this thing feels cheap. It's lightweight and plasticky feeling. It looks a lot like a really old VHS tape camcorder. It feels like a toy.

BUT... I'll be dipped if this thing doesn't shoot some fine video! It's really crisp and vibrant stuff! I shoot professional MMA cage matches. I use multiple cameras. The light weight of this thing turned out to be a blessing as I sometimes need to hold this camera way out, with fully extended arms to be able to capture some of my over-the-top-of-the-cage shots. I still get a full-body workout, but thank god it's not as heavy as a more expensive camera of the same size.

It's not the greatest in low light situations, but really, what digital video camera is that doesn't cost half an arm? I've never seen one with stellar low-light performance.

Also, it tends to go slightly out of focus when using the maximum zoom speed. I mean, if you were zoomed way in and wanted to zoom out as fast as possible, you will notice a little bit of a focus issue DURING the zoom process. You don't see it if you zoom more slowly.

The sound this camera captures is also quite surprising. I expected the mic that came with it to need replacing, but I haven't yet because it actually sounds pretty darn good.

All in all, it's my favorite camera for its results. I think I want to go get another one, or maybe two of these. They are great beaters to use on extreme sport gigs like this.

Don't expect to use any high-end wireless units on this camera. It's not set up with the standard stuff that the high-end cameras have to adapt wireless video.

Really though, if you're shooting weddings, or sporting events, or other gigs like this, this is a decent cam for a decent price. You won't kick yourself.

Note: You'll want a case for this thing and they are VERY hard to find in the size you will need (over 19 inches). You can find them out there, but you'll pay about helf the price of the camera just for the bag. I went to Home Depot and bought the FAT MAX roll-around tool case. I made some padding for the lower drawer of the tool case and this camera fit inside perfectly. Then the other two drawers hold the accessories, tapes, etc. It fits perfectly and only costs about 60 some-odd bucks. I like it because it rolls around and takes a beating. Just a tip. Hope it helps.

I actually could not decide between the Garmin Nuvi 255w or the 750 model, so I decided to buy them both for comparison. I mounted them both to my car windshield and gave them various addresses to find together. I found that both models took the same routes and announced upcoming turns and street names at practically the same time. One thing I noticed about the 255w was that it was updating my position on the road more often, I'd say about 3 times as often as the 750. This made for smoother graphics on the 255w of the vehicle moving along displayed roads, where the 750's display was more of a "jerky" movement. I also found that the display on the 255w was a bit brighter, clearer, and more vivid than on the 750 in both daylight and at night. Another feature I like on the 255w is the graphic turn indicator in the upper left corner, which the 750 lacks. This is a small arrow which shows upcoming turns and the distance to that turn. It also show things like a fork in the road, (ie: a Y intersection), and which fork you will be taking. The 750 just displays text on the top line for upcoming turns without the arrow. It's just a little extra feature on the 255w which I happened to really like. The 255 also automatically adjusts the font size of displayed text so that even lengthy text will fit.

Another feature on the 255w is a display of the posted speed limit on the road which you are currently on right above your current displayed speed. I found myself not even looking at my car speedometer as I could easily see my current speed and the speed limit of my route at a glance. The 750 doesn't have this feature. I also like how they moved the zoom in (+) and zoom out (-) buttons on the 255w to the same side of the screen which makes it a bit easier. On the 750 the zoom buttons are on opposite sides of the screen.

Now there are some features on the 750 that the 255w does not have. The 750 can broadcast it's sound over your FM radio with the supplied cigarette lighter cable, and it has a headphone jack, which I found to be nice features. The 750 also has an MP3 player and an Audio-book player, which the 255w does not. Another really nice feature of the 750 is the car locater. This is a great feature if you are parking in a really big lot, such as at an amusement park or a fair. The 750 marks your location when you remove it from the car, then you take it with you and it remembers where you parked and takes you right back to your car. The 255w doesn't have the car locater.

I also thought the the voice prompts of the 750 where more pleasant sounding than the 255w's. The 750 sounds more like a real female voice, where the 255w sounds more robotic.

Another thing to consider was that I paid $50 less for the 750 and it came with the FM transmitter cable and a USB cord to connect it to your computer for updates and downloads.

My final decision was to keep the 255w and return the 750 because I really liked the graphic turn indicator and the posted speed limit and current speed indicators. I didn't find a need for the 750's MP3 player and Audio book player, but that is up to personal preference. Since the USB cable was not included with the 255w, I purchased it on this site for $10. I also intend to purchase the MSN direct cable when it is available in August 2008.

The title says it all. The wide shots allow more of the storm into the shot. This increases your chances of capturing a lightning shot or the structure of the entire storm, which I had to do in sections with my 18-55mm lens or my phone camera. It is also great for photographing city skylines, landscapes, and even things that are very close to you. In Memphis, for example, I came across a neat statue, but it was located feet away from a busy street. I could not capture it any other way because of the position of the sun, and I wanted the Memphis skyline behind it. I set the lens to its widest setting and captured the whole thing! It was also great to bring to southern France and Monaco. I could photograph the entire city of Nice from one vantage point, with the Alps in the background.

I picked this set up last year. mounted the cameras on the eves of my house.

The overlap covers part of the road and with in a month picked up pictures of the vehicle

responsible for a neighborhood break in.

I picked up a second dvr and 4 cameras to completely cover the parameter of my house.

You can adjust the frame rate and with motion configuration I can block out my trees moving in the wind.

I set the camera pointing at the front door and gates at highest quality and the ones over looking the kids

play structure to a lower value to save disk space.

I have older kids and these camera seem to eliminate issues with coming home late.

I put one in the garage and can now find when/where my tools walked off to, "teenage son".

Word got out about the camera and the rift/raft now walk down a different street

It's a better world.

The only con: if you loose power the dvr can scramble your video index and/or stop recording.

I've had to unplug the cameras and restart to log in. Then format the hard drive to get it working again.

After the second time I bought a ups battery back up and plug the cameras and dvrs into this. Now

it works even when the power goes out.

I also run the provided application on my laptop at home to view saved fiels and I downloaded the android app so I can check my garage camera to make sure I really did shut the garage door.

Okay.. I own a galaxy tab two kindles and an iPad so I have had plenty of experience in the tablet field. That I think was my first problem ... you don't treat this as a tablet where you just download apps from the app store. If u do you will be disappointed. Think PC when ur using this. I gave it a four stars and not five mainly because the amount of time it took to update all the apps and the windows updates and while these are updating this tablet acts very odd ... such as things not working like apps or mail or downloading new apps. I was ready to return it... but after the installs were complete everything was great. The best thing about this tab is that you use a full browser and can install real pc programs. The smart cover is decent and worth the money I paid for it. The best part is using my apple magic mouse and keyboard on the tab.. it works flawlessly. Windows 8 takes some getting used to and don't think that this tab is junk bc u don't like change because windows 8 is very intuitive and can make multitasking much easier than any other ios or android device. If u want to do real work instead of just playing angry birds this tab is a god choice for the price.

Pentax K-r 12.4 MP Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Black

Pentax K-r 12.4 MP Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Over the past four years, I've owned an *ist DL, a K100D and a K2000. The new Pentax K-r feels like a huge improvement over its already excellent predecessors.

NEW FEATURES:

The most obvious improvements are the great new features. The K-r now has a dedicated focus assist lamp. In short, it's unintrusive compared to a strobing popup flash and it works great. I can't believe it took Pentax this long to give us this feature.

The K-r also supports both a proprietary lithium ion battery and AA batteries. You'll have to find a special adapter to use AA batteries though. Unfortunately, Pentax didn't bundle the adapter with the body.

K-x users will also be familiar with the in-camera HDR feature. The K-r includes several HDR settings including auto, standard, strong 1, strong 2, and strong 3. HDR mode is easily accessed by pressing the Info button.

Movie mode is available once again, but it's still not particularly robust. You can shoot in 720p at 25fps, which is an odd frame rate. AF isn't available while you're shooting, but I've found that manual focusing is easy enough with the right lens. I didn't have any problems with my FA 35mm.

Auto white-balancing is greatly improved over the K100D and the K2000 also. You can now shoot in tungsten light without having to manually set the WB. No more horribly yellow photos indoors followed by extremely blue photos outdoors when you forget to white balance again!

Finally, my favorite new feature is the selectable 11-point AF. When it's enabled, you can press the OK button to bring up the point selection interface and use the arrow keys to select your focus point. When you're done, press and hold the OK button to close the menu so you can use the arrow keys for other shortcuts again.

INTERFACE:

With each new release, Pentax's interface has improved and the K-r is no exception. For people coming from the older *ist DL and K100D bodies, you'll immediately notice that the four arrow buttons now have double purposes. Instead of pressing FN + right to get to the ISO menu, you just need to press the right arrow button. Users of the K2000 will find the interface very familiar, but still improved. The Info button now brings up the grid of commonly used settings such as HDR modes, JPG/RAW, metering settings, AF mode, etc. Each setting is represented with an icon or text label and moving the cursor over the setting allows you to quickly cycle through the different modes using the dial. It's similar to pressing the OK button the K2000, but now with more options and fewer button presses.

When you preview your last JPG photo, you also get the option to save it as raw. This only works with the last photo taken, probably because the camera only stores the raw data for one photo at a time. This is a great feature for those who prefer to shoot in JPG and still occasionally use raw.

BUILD QUALITY:

The build quality of the K-r is as solid as every previous Pentax dSLR body that I've owned. The battery compartment latch is slightly improved over the K2000 and the K100D. It's a little hard to describe the new latch, but it's easy to use and much harder to accidentally open.

PERFORMANCE:

I loved the low light performance of my K100D and I enjoyed the newer interface and faster AF of my K2000. The K-r again gets the best of both worlds with very clean photos at ISO 1600 and even faster and more decisive autofocus. It's also now capable of shooting at 6fps in continuous mode.

OVERALL:

The Pentax K-r has really exceeded my expectations. The improved performance combined with the new features makes the K-r a joy to use. It's an excellent entry-level dSLR that it will satisfy even more seasoned photographers who want a compact spare body.

I am very pleased so far with this TV. I have bought several large flat panel TVs over the last few years and this one I am really pleased. I have been pleased with Samsung in general and only buy Samsung now for displays/TVs at this point (have 4 large screen TVs and 5 monitors in my house). As others have mentioned, it is a new model for this year and really packs a ton of features in for the price. I love plasma (over LED and LCD) and was really surprised how the weight has come down. The picture is great. One feature I really wanted to make sure I got was the ethernet input because with more and more stuff moving to internet, I felt it would be a good idea to have. I am finishing a basement and have the opportunity to run the ethernet right to where i will put this tv. Don't get me wrong, the built in WIFI works perfectly too, I just wanted to have this option too and many other models don't have this. One thing I was not aware of is that it doesn't have a VGA input. I was planning on using that to hook up a computer. For me its not a big deal as I can use HDMI, but thought I would mention as I didn't notice that before ordering. Overall I think this is a great TV and a great deal would definitely recommend and I am seriously considering buying another one for another room (yes, I have been told I have a problem with buying too many TVs).

UPDATE (4/15/12) After several days of usage, I noticed a buzzing sound when sitting in just the right (or wrong depending on how you look at it) place. Sitting directly in front and about 8 feet away I noticed a pretty load buzzing sound. If I moved closer or to the side I did not really notice it. (I couldn't really try moving back based on the way the room is where I had it). I actually wasn't sure what it was at first and I turned everything down and could still here it. I then traced it to the back of the TV and sure enough I could tell it was coming from the TV. I took the TV back because of this I am not willing to live with that. I really like the TV and its features otherwise, so I ordered another one and am awaiting delivery from Amazon tomorrow. I did some research and it seems this "buzzing" issue has been experienced by other people on a variety of Samsung plasmas, but I'm hoping its just luck of the draw and I get one that doesn't do it this next time. I have two other Samsung plasmas in my house already (older models) and have never had any issues. I'll post an update when I find out if this new one does the same thing.

UPDATE (5/5/12) So I received the new TV from Amazon and it works perfectly. No buzzing sound with this one. So I'm back to being very pleased. As I mentioned in my initial post, I was seriously considering purchasing another one and in fact I just placed that order tonight. Here's hoping I get one without the buzzing issue again because its really a great TV for the money.

We're going on 5 months now with this running 24/7. So far its worked fine with a few complaints. I would give it 4 stars but the price was the biggest selling point. Our previous DVR (GE brand) cost $1500. This one cost $200 and has more HDD space and features. Plus it takes up much less space in the cabinet. When our security camera repair tech said our previous DVR was toast he said NOT to get a Q-See because he gets a lot of customers who buy them at Costco and they break within the first month. So when I bought this I wasn't counting on much but it has been good so far.

Things I liked:

1. Price by far the best value

2. Tech support. I had to call twice and they answered the phone within a minute or two.

3. Features it uses our network so we can view our cameras from our smart phones or internet browser

4. Signal strength. We have two monitors using the BNC output about 500' away from the DVR. With our previous DVR the images where grainy and had waves. This one is much clearer using the same cables

Things I don't like:

1. When its recording it puts this big red "R" on each camera's display. I would rather it only tell me if its NOT recording for some reason.

2. Every time the power flickers it resets the displays to all 18 cameras. We only use 9 cameras so we have to climb up where the DVR is and set it back to 9. Soon we'll put it on a battery backup so that shouldn't happen anymore.

3. It doesn't show the time on the displays our previous DVR would show that in the bottom corner.

Camera arrived faster than promised and was packaged well and in good condition. This Camera is nothing short of awesome. I did not buy it for the tripod and you shouldn't either. The table top tripod is too light and almost like a toy and the full size one is also very light and wobbly when fully extended. Honestly, I would not trust it with this camera on it. Be aware also that this does not specify type II lenses but that is the kit that I got. I don't know if it was a shipping mistake or a typo in the description but overall I think they really delivered on the promptness of expediting the order and packaging as well as price (they beat my local shopping "club" by more than 50 dollars for the basic camera kit alone) and would definitely buy from them again. I am very happy with this purchase.

I wanted more zoom for my sony nex 3 camera and opted for the package that cost the same as the lens itself. I did have to buy a special a to e-mount adapter for the lens to fit the nex-3(but apparently this zoom lens does fit directly to sony a-mount cameras)The lens works well on automatic after you download the update (easy to do)...although a little slow when trying to take a photo of a quicker moving subject, it is easier to manually focus (also easy to do= so no big deal!) The extras in the package were a bonus. The bag comes in handy and is well constructed with nice pockets (although it is a slightly different bag than pictured) The extra lenses in their own case are nice to have and I actually just leave the UV one on the lens much of the time in order to protect the actual telephoto lens from scratches. The other items in the kit are not worth paying extra forbut nice because it was like they were just thrown into the package deal for a free bonus anyway. I would definitely recommend this lens...and the package was just an added good deal! Thanks!

Camera takes great pics. Only problem I have with it is the flash....it is positioned on the top left of the camera and pops up every time it is needed....

the issue is, that most people put their finger on the top left of a camera when taking pics! Bad design otherwise, I do like it
