Optically, this lens is considered identical to its predecessor, so read those reviews to learn about image quality. The only real difference is that this new version uses more metal and less plastic, which makes it a bit smaller but heavier (it's still very light). And it's available in silver.

The video review is shot through this lens. It doesn't have much except a demonstration of focus speed and noise, and a few sample photographs (Amazon never published the photo I uploaded, maybe because it wasn't a photo of the product).

There were basically only two complaints ever made about the previous model: (1) focusing was noisy and slow, and (2) noise banding in the shadows on Olympus bodies. I can't speak to the second because I only have a Panasonic body (G6). As for the first, I can only say that focusing is definitely louder and slower than my kit lens (the new version of the 14-42mm zoom), but I probably wouldn't have even noticed the noise if I wasn't specifically looking for it. It seems pretty quiet to me, a relative beginner. Recording video using the built-in microphones on the G6, there is a tiny bit of noise captured, but I barely notice it (I'll demonstrate in a video review). I would use a separate audio recorder if I was going for maximum quality anyway.

Panasonic's official but unstated position seems to be that this lens doesn't need a hood. Panasonic doesn't make one that fits on it, nor is there any way to attach one aside from the filter threads. I went ahead and got a cheap screw-in one, but so far I haven't been able to tell the difference.
